Hi there. I'm Frankie.
I'm a senior at Royal High School in Royal City, Washington, a small farming town in Eastern Washington of about 2,000 people. Outside of school, I've attended the Washington Business Week summer camp for the past 3 years, becoming heavily invested in the program.
This year, Washington Business Week has given me the opportunity to travel to Poland to assist with their Polish program. I will be a student adviser for the Polish students, guiding them through their week of learning and running a simulated business as well as learning myself.
Running this wonderful program is expensive, as is international travel. Without many opportunities to make money in my small town, I need to find a way to pay for this opportunity. This is where you can help me.
The Plan
The money is going to go into the following:
The total cost of the program
Airline tickets, there and back
Day-to-day spending overseas
A good camera to document the adventure (can't use my phone overseas)
A tablet for portable international blogging (desktops aren't portable)
I may not be able to maintain the blog or document the adventure as well without a camera or a tablet of sorts, but the real important thing here is the program and the flight. The international experience and helping these students is what this is all about.
Any additional funds past the the goal will go towards sponsoring students willing to broaden their educational horizons at various Washington Business Week summer programs in the future, as well as assist with my collegiate education at University of Washington.
I can't offer much as for perks so everything is rather modest, but with modesty comes heart, sincerity, and thankfulness for your contributions.
For donations of $1-$4, thanks for your contribution. Every dollar helps in the end!
Starting at $5 to $9, you will receive a personally-typed thank you letter including a picture from the trip. I would hand write it, but I figure you would actually want to read the note (my handwriting is borderline-legible.)
From $10 to $49, you receive the thank-you note mailed to you as well as a public post of thanks on the blog about your contribution. You may also add your own personal message to the post as well.
At $50 to $99, I will make a personal video of me singing, reciting, or reading whatever you want me to and post it on YouTube as well as the blog. I've been told I have a good, deep reading voice, as well as being a pretty competent singer. Whether you want me to read Green Eggs and Ham, Sonnet 116, or sing a tune from Taylor Swift, I'll do it as passionately or comedically as you want me to. I might even get all dressed up for the video too. All previous perks included too!
From $100-$499, backers can join an hour-long livestream I will hold on a to-be-determined streaming service to discuss the trip, from experiences to funny happenings and everything in between. The thank-you note and public post are also included.
Finally, for donations $500 and up, backers will be treated to a lunch with me in Seattle to discuss experiences from the trip and whatever else springs upon us. Other arrangements can be made if you are unable to attend the lunch. Planning and details for the lunch will be cemented in the weeks to come. You will also receive the physical and public thanks.
The Impact
International opportunities are rare to come by for kids in my situation, especially at this age. Being given this chance to travel to another country to educate other students with the same passion as I do is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The Business Week program had a profound impact on my life back when I was 15. I really had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up, especially when "What do you want to do when you grow up?" evolved into "What do you want to do in 4 years?" I attended the program and it changed me. Not only did I learn about the business, but the connections I made with professionals and students alike kept me going back to the camp year after year. There's a certain environment at the camp that's indescribable. It's happy, fun, inviting: a plethora of good feelings. I hope to give this same experience to other students overseas.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you are unable to contribute to my cause, it's totally okay! You can still help!
- Go to wbw.org and select the contribute tab. Here you can donate to give another student the opportunity to learn more about business during the summer.
- Talk to your teen about enriching their education with a summer program such as Washington Business Week or a different program with their interests in mind. Get them to branch out and try something new!
- Talk to your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, anyone to get the word out about my campaign.
- Share my campaign on Facebook. Tweet about my campaign; heck, use the hashtag #getme2poland if you want. Post it on Reddit. Blog about it on Tumblr. Do what you can to get my campaign around the Internet.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
