Recently I stumbled upon this forgotten treasure. Down an old country road near Norman, Oklahoma passing many sub developments and squeezed between a huge industrial area. I came across this old schoolhouse that has long been forgotten. It was built around the turn of the century. Two rooms, two teachers and many students.
I decided to stop and take a look around. I was able to peak between the boarded up windows and I was brought back to a time much more simpler than today. Frozen in time, the long black board stretching across both classrooms, with an elevated platform where the teachers once stood. In the back of each classroom two giant pot bellied stoves still stand, where once they were the life of the school keeping those children warm while they learn. A couple desks scattered here and there, with other things from the past. The schoolhouse's exterior needs the most work, some foundation repair here and there, but the interior is almost as if the students are away on summer vacation.
I managed to track down the owners so we are trying to raise money to purchase this schoolhouse to preserve for future generations. The schoolhouse happens to be getting closer and closer to the city. Everywhere you look the past is slowly being erased to make way for sub development after sub development, and we want to make sure a developer does not come and squeeze a housing development on the site.
Please help us raise the money to purchase this property. With the help of you, we can preserve and recondition this site for future generations to come. And make sure no developer comes in and tears it down. If we are lucky enough to reach our goal, which will cover the purchase price, any money received over our goal will go to the revitalization of the schoolhouse. Thank You!
