This awesome house sits on a wildlife refuge in Townsend DE. Over the years, its been abandoned and fallen into a state of disrepair, which has been accelerated by mass amounts of vandalism. On almost a daily basis, locals troop through the woods to investigate, and sometime mar this beautiful old house.
Our goal is simple. Raise money, fix up the house, live in it, preserve it, share its prettiness with anyone who wants to come see. Its been nominated for a place on both the state and national historic homes registries and to be frank, its an incredible structure. Sadly, all the outbuildings but the tower have been torn down due to damage caused by stolen construction equipment that some kids embedded in the front of what was once the office. The house dates back to the late 1700's to early 1800's (the historical society is still fuzzy on that date) and the property includes a private cemetery.
Our main issue is money vs. time. Each day that goes by, more damage is done to the house and the harder it will be and the more it will cost to repair. It needs a complete overhaul, asbestos abatement, new drywall, electrical, plumbing, roof, siding, windows... top to bottom. Our goal is to preserve as much of the historical integrity as possible, and thankfully a lot of the interior woodwork is intact and can be salvaged and reused. The total cost has been estimated between $400,000 and $500,000, since we don't know what other fun surprises we'll find once we start tearing into walls.
