Street Beet 100% Vegan Comfort Food
Street Beet was started by two friends with a common interest- to make the most delicious vegan food we could dream up! Both being vegan and living in Detroit, we had very limited dining options available to us. We shared nostalgic cravings for the foods we grew up eating like mac and cheese, fried chicken, and Taco Bell! We asked ourselves, how can we make these familiar foods that everyone loves out of plants? So, we quit our day jobs and dove straight into what would become the most important endeavor of our lives, Street Beet!
Today, our events draw diverse crowds of hundreds of people who wait in long lines that wrap around the block. While most of our guests are from Metro Detroit, our social media following of over 15,000 has attracted travelers from New York, Chicago, Pennsylvania, and Canada. This year we were named “Best Pop Up Dining Experience” by Hour Detroit Magazine, we participated in the Forbes 30 under 30 Food Festival, and we have received national and local recognition from P.E.T.A, VegNews, Metro Times, The Detroit News, WDET and so many more.
Our food does not have barriers. We provide a menu and an experience that is safe and inclusive for people of all cultural backgrounds, all religions, all races, and all ages. We believe in making sure nobody is ever left out and everyone feels welcome. Our food is not just for vegans. Our menu caters to folks with all different needs. Whether you are limited due to health reasons or religious beliefs, you have a food allergy, or you just want to eat more plant-based, our food is for you! When we open to the public at our Brick & Mortar, we will be providing consistent access to affordable, sustainable, allergen-friendly vegan comfort food!
Without a space to call home, Street Beet is at a stand-still. Pop-ups are incredibly taxing mentally and physically, and unpredictable (in pretty much every way). We want to serve food out of a space of our own so we can rely on the efficiency and function of our own equipment, and no longer be limited with storage space available to us. We desperately want to stop breaking the news (to people who have traveled and waited) that we have sold out of food. A restaurant of our own will allow us to shorten wait times and feed more people. Rather than hosting a few events per month, we could be open all of the time!
We love what we do, and we want to do this forever. We need this money to begin the buildout for our very FIRST restaurant here in Detroit. Thank you for your consideration in helping us get there!
