This campaign is to save the life of an orphaned young person, living alone in Odessa, Ukraine, fighting for her life.
My name is Kim de Blecourt. I am an author and a speaker. I blog at NourishedHearts.com. I am a wife and mother. I am an adoptive parent. I am an orphan advocate.
I am reaching out on behalf of our adopted son's older, half-sister, Svetlana. Svetlana is described in my book, "Until We All Come Home: A Harrowing Journey, a Mother's Courage, a Race to Freedom." I am often asked about her on the book's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/UntilWeAllComeHome.
Here are the facts:
- Svetlana is an orphan, living in Odessa, Ukraine. Svetlana is fighting for her life against a multidrug resistant form of Tuberculosis. She is living in a state run TB hospital in Odessa, Ukraine.
- My family and I have been caring for Svetlana over the past couple of years, however her needs have now expanded beyond our means. I have been encouraged to reach out via crowdsourcing for Svetlana. I am willing to try anything that could help her...
- Svetlana's right lung is so badly infected from her tuberculosis, it must be removed. Unfortunately, her left lung is now involved also, and is not strong enough to support her pulmonary function alone.
- I am raising funding to admit Svetlana to a private hospital in Odessa. It is her only chance for survival.
- Since November (the beginning of the EuroMaidan, conflict in Ukraine), many nurses and doctors in Svetlana's hospital have not been paid. Some are no longer reporting to work. Food has become semi-regular and barely maintains life.
- Svetlana needs more food. She is starving. She is now down to only 37 kilos. Nutrition is a vital part of her recovery.
$10,000 will admit her to a private care facility with personal doctor and care for the two years her full recovery demands. It will provide the extra nutrition she needs to fight for her life. It will also cover periodic testing, occasional travel, and vitamins so desperately needed.
Any funding collected beyond our basic needs request will fund her return to schooling and a residence of her own, upon her full recovery.
