Our Story
My name is Alex Ramsey, and I am a Junior at Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley, CA, and an avid member of the Nevada Union Band Program. The program has been operating for many years, and has helped to create an untold number of unforgettable experiences and lifelong friendships. Our program, like many other arts programs across the nation, are now faced with a mounting crisis. Largely in response to the economic recession, the program is now faced with a large amount of debt and not enough money to effectively continue running the program. If we fail to raise enough money, the program itself will be effectively stripped down to the minimum number of classes, as dictated by the school, and the core of the program will potentially disintegrate. I don't want to see that happen, and we are working very hard to stem this crisis. This is where you can help.
The Impact
The funds we receive from this and other sources will allow the program to continue building friendships, experiences, and skills, in addition to entertaining people within our community as well as others. If we do not meet our deadline, the program will in essence evaporate. Across the nation, arts programs are being cut as being "unnecessary," when in reality they are fundamental programs for youth. We can't see this program fall like countless others.
What We Need
The money donated to me will be donated to the band program, and will initially be used to pay off existing debt the band program has accumulated due to the program's lack of money. After these existing debts have payed off in full, the money will be used to help fund the program for the rest of the year and/or beyond. This includes the Jazz program, the Winter Percussion program, the Winter Guard program, and the Pep Band program, as well as additional expenditures of the band. The money for funding will be used to pay for buses, buy new equipment, purchase music, etc. We are not necessarily asking for a large sum of money - anything, literally ANYTHING helps.
Other Ways You Can Help
You can help by donating to the cause, as well as forwarding this to your friends and spreading the word. The more people who donate, the more easily the program can stay afloat in these economic times!
I greatly appreciate anything and everything you can do to help the band in its time of need! Thanks!
