Help Us Bring Two Trans Bloggers To Woodhull!
Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit (often called SFS or just "Woodhull" in passing) is an annual conference about sexual rights that is held in Washington, DC every August. The Woodhull Foundation has been extremely welcoming to and appreciative of the sex blogging community, and because of that, many bloggers gather at Woodhull to further their education, share their knowledge as panel speakers, and enjoy the company of their peers who are scattered across the world.
Conferences can be expensive, and as a result, many bloggers require financial assistance to make it to Woodhull. Two of our community's trans bloggers, Taylor J. Mace of Feisty Fox Films and Insert Trans Here, will be attending this year, but need some extra financial support to make it to the summit. Because of that, Sugarcunt is raising money for them jointly to ensure that they can both afford registration, travel from California and Toronto, and sleep in actual beds and eat regularly for the duration of the conference.
I'm Sugarcunt. I've been a sex blogger for ~6 years, and I have started putting effort into bringing our blogging community together. Between sponsorships and blog advertising, my Woodhull trip is financed, so I'm focusing on getting newer and more marginalized members of our blogging community to the conference this year!
Insert Trans Here writes about sex and reviews sex toys from the perspective of a trans woman. The sex blogging community as it stands right now has a distinct lack of AMAB trans folks in general, and Insert Trans Here is the only binary trans woman I know of who reviews sex toys. Because she started blogging in the latter half of 2016, it has been difficult for her to get sponsorships due to having to compete with older bloggers for them.
Taylor (pictured with Sugarcunt) runs Feisty Fox Films, a website where they write essays, sex toy reviews, and post their indie queer pornography. Taylor began blogging in 2015, attended the Sexual Freedom Summit for the first time last year, and is thrilled to come back this year, but they recently had surgery which has rendered them unable to work in the months following. Taylor has made arrangements for some sponsorships, but until the money is either in their bank account or has purchased their accommodations, I never assume that sponsorship money is guaranteed.
If our fundraiser exceeds our goal or Insert Trans Here and Taylor find other sponsorships, any money that isn't used to get them to Woodhull will be given to another blogger who is struggling to fund their trip to the Sexual Freedom Summit.
The Sexual Freedom Summit has been a wonderful experience for many bloggers. It has been refreshing for older bloggers to attend a conference where the blogging community is valued, and it gives new bloggers the opportunity to meet their community face-to-face, often for the first time. SFS is an event that offers many of us the opportunity to further our professional education, network, and bond.
Last year was my first time attending a sexuality conference and meeting my sex blogging friends in real life. I had an amazing time - I learned a lot, rubbed elbows with industry experts that I had long admired, and made wonderful memories with my friends. It was also the first time that I, as an AFAB nonbinary queer living my entire life in North Carolina, had felt like my identity was being validated. I had never been in a space with my sex industry peers, who are generally very consent-oriented, kind, and affirming. It was honestly life-changing, and now it's the thing I look forward to every year.
I want this for my friends, too! I desperately want Insert Trans Here to meet her fellow bloggers in-person, and to experience this space for herself for the first time. I want Taylor to join us for Woodhull again this year, because SFS was wonderful for them too, and I want them to be happy! The presence of trans folks at the Summit is vital, because it is up to us to help the Woodhull Foundation continue improving their event and organization as a whole. The input of trans bloggers is important, and that's why I want to get two of my trans friends to the conference!
