Help raise funds and awareness for education. Educate Pakistani Children!

I am participating in something called the Drive To See Them Thrive 2013. This TCF campaign raises funds so we can change the lives of thousands of children by giving them the right to education! The goal for the whole program is to raise $180,000 to construct a purpose built school for kids who need it the most. My personal goal is only $2000.

For 30-days, campaign participants will generate conversations, awareness and raise funds so that every child in Pakistan has a school to call their own.

So please help me out and give what you can. Every dollar goes a long way towards both the cause and helping you feel good about yourself.

By the way, The Citizen's Foundation (TCF) is Pakistan's largest non-governmental educator. They do a pretty good job of steering donations into results. Your funds are in safe hands.

Sincerely,

Akbar Khan

How it all started...

In the Spring of 2012, two dozen professionals set a goal of raising $180,000 to build a new, purpose-built school in Pakistan via The Citizens Foundation. To date, $55,000 (31%) has been raised through various initiatives, but plenty remains, and that’s hopefully where you come in!

Mission

To remove barriers of class and privilege to make the citizens of Pakistan agents of positive change.

From the slums to Harvard

Seven years ago, Anum Fatima became the first girl in her family to complete her matriculation. Today she is busy packing her bags for Harvard.

For the 23-year-old, admission to a school run by The Citizen Foundation changed her life. After completing her matriculation, she was encouraged to join the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) and later apply for a summer programme to Harvard University.

The Benefits Of Literacy

Literacy saves lives

The education of parents has greater total effect on child mortality than any other factor. One year of a mother's education has been associated with a 9% decrease in under 5 child mortality. Teaching mothers to read can lead to a decrease in infant mortality of up to 50%.

Literates place higher value on the education of children. Adult education encourages children's education. Children who live in an illiterate environment tend to forget what they have learned. Literacy means easier access to political and social arenas.

People who can read are better able to get involved in the society of which they are a part.

  • Literacy enables better money management.
  • People who cannot read are more likely to be fooled or taken advantage of.
  • Literacy enhances self-esteem and confidence.
  • Literacy increases access to better paid jobs.
  • Literacy means greater productivity on a national scale.
  • In a recent study, a 20-30% increase in literacy produces a 8 -16% gain in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
  • Literacy encourages later marriage and smaller families.

Next stop. Universal Education.
