Please Read Before Donating

We think we may be the first UK Parliamentary campaign ever to raise funds using a crowdfunding website. That is incredibly exciting, but it means that Indiegogo - although a fantastic platform - is not entirely compatible with our requirements.

By law, we are only allowed to accept donations from UK citizens. We need to be able to prove this, so we need to ask for your name, address and postcode. For this reason, please only donate by choosing one of the "perks" along the right hand side.

If you donate via the contribute-without-a-perk method, and then do not provide your address and postcode when we later email you, we will unfortunately have to refund your money.

Your personal details will not be used for anything other than proving that you are a UK citizen.

Campaigning in Witney Town Centre

Why We Are Doing This

Hi, I’m Duncan Enright.

Next year I will be standing in the General Election for the Labour Party to represent my home town of Witney. The constituency is currently held by the Prime Minister, David Cameron.

You may ask, “Why are you going up against the Prime Minister, Duncan?” Well, there are two reasons:

First of all, there is the damage that Mr Cameron has done to the country. I believe that he has made life in the UK worse for millions of people, and made our society even more unequal.

His government has cut financial assistance to those in need and to the services that they rely on most, while at the same time shamelessly reducing tax for the richest.

The second reason is that Mr Cameron has done almost nothing to help his constituents in West Oxfordshire, despite being our representative in Parliament for 13 years.

The district has problems with congested roads, a lack of affordable houses, and few jobs that do not require a long commute. But nothing has changed during Mr Cameron's time in office.

By ousting Mr Cameron we will send a powerful message that we do not accept what he has done, both to the country and to the district.

At the same time, I believe that I am the right person to make the changes that West Oxfordshire needs.

I have been a town and district councillor in Witney for several years and have been fighting hard to improve the local roads, increase the openness on Witney Town Council and for people to have a say on new housing developments.

On top of this, and unlike Mr Cameron, I live in Witney with wife and two children, am a governor at a local secondary school and for 10 years was a non-executive director on Oxfordshire Learning Disabilities NHS Trust.

If you want to know any more about me, or about the campaign, you can visit my website, duncanenright.com.

What We Need

We hope to raise £10,000 over the next month.

It costs £1,500 to print 45,000 leaflets - enough for every single house in the constituency - and a further £2,500 to post them by Royal Mail.

We hope to do this twice before December - once to introduce myself to those who do not already know me, and another to compare myself and my work locally with Mr Cameron's.

We propose to use the remaining £2,000 to run a series of adverts in the Witney Gazette, which is read by more than 18,000 people in West Oxfordshire every week.

We hope this will begin to persuade people that there can be a revolution in West Oxfordshire, that this is no longer a safe seat, and that there is a reason to get out and vote in May.

The Impact We Could Have

A Prime Minister has never lost their constituency seat before. If we achieve our goal and - with your help - oust Mr Cameron then we will make history.

However, the main reason we are doing this is because kicking out Mr Cameron will send a huge message to the Conservatives that we do not accept their policies of inequality and deprivation - that this is not the kind of country we want to live in.

And, furthermore, we will create real change in Witney.

So much could have been achieved in the district in the last 30 years, but the town has almost always had politicians chasing their careers rather than focusing on the people of West Oxfordshire.

Before Mr Cameron, the constituency was represented by the former cabinet member, Douglas Hurd, for more than a decade.

If I am elected in May this will end. Witney will finally have someone in the highest office who will be fighting to improve the district's roads, schools, jobs, hospitals and houses - Witney will finally have someone listening.

Risks & Challenges

We have a massive challenge ahead of ourselves before May 2015.

At the last election in 2010, Mr Cameron received 58.8 per cent of the vote, while the Labour Party were beaten into third place with just 13 per cent.

But a lot has changed since then.

Mr Cameron has fallen from grace, and angered many locally; the Liberal Democrats, who came second in 2010, have all but collapsed; and UKIP will stand, taking votes from the Conservatives with them.

But we cannot rely on these factors - we know that we must fight for every single vote before May. And we need thousands more votes.

But I think we have a persuasive argument and - with your help - we can begin to reach the constituents of West Oxfordshire and make our case.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you can’t help financially, that’s absolutely fine. But please, help us by spreading the word via Twitter, Facebook, and the old fashioned method of word-of-mouth.

The more people that visit this site, the more money we can raise and the more people we can get our message to.

We are also always looking for volunteers.

Maybe you live in Oxfordshire and you can help knock on doors with us? Or maybe you know a bit about websites or social media and can help us iron out the creases on our campaign sites? If you can help in any way, please get in touch.
