Picking up a pencil, putting on a backpack, or even wiping yourself after going to the restroom are actions that we usually do without thinking twice. However, for Joshua (7), these actions always need a helping hand from a loved one or just someone nearby who is willing to help.
Joshua and Francisco (17) are two boys from Fullerton, California that need your help!! Both Francisco and Joshua were born with underdeveloped hands and arms, and were given prosthetic arms by their doctor. However, due to the weight and discomfort of the prosthetics, the boys have resorted to relying on help from others to complete daily tasks instead.
When we heard about 3D Printers and how people have been using them to make 3D Printed prosthetic hands, the boys were ecstatic! As they love staying active and are still growing, the 3D Printer presented us with an opportunity to easily replace old and broken hands with new Robohands!
What We Need & What You Get

The breakdown of the costs looks roughly like this:
MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D Printer $2,899.00
Filament (the material used by the printer to print the hands): $430.00
Smart Extruder for MakerBot Replicator & Replicator Mini: $175.00
+tax + shipping and handling =~$4300 dollars.
Any extra money will be used to continue to support Joshua and Francisco, also covering costs for extra filament to make new hands for the boys in the case that they break or the boys grow out of them!
The Impact
It would mean the world to us and the boys if you could help us out! The boys are growing rapidly and love staying active, and are really looking forward to what changes the 3D Printing technology can bring.
A Little About Me...
My name is Emily Oh, and I am a recent graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles from Fullerton, California. I met Francisco and Joshua while volunteering at a Title 1 school in the area, where more than 90% of the population qualifies for free meals and after school programs. I often went to volunteer after school and during the summers during which I came to realize that there is great need right across town.
