Short Summary
My goal is to create a 30-minute documentary short, Henry’s Hair, that will follow Henry McCrea for one calendar year beginning with his mother’s funeral and ending at an assembly at his High School. We will be present for a number of life altering moments while we watch a young man transition from the innocence of childhood to the complexity of his pending adulthood. This is a coming-of-age story that we don’t often see.
What We Need & What You Get
We need to cover the costs of this post production phase. These costs will include:
Two editors
New video production (video crew, talent, equipment rental)
New original music
New original graphics
Postproduction audio
Develop marketing materials (T-shirt, Soundtrack CD, Blu-Ray Disc, movie poster)
You get a unique, compelling coming of age film you won't soon forget along with some fun perks.
The Impact
What struck me the hardest about Henry and his journey was the maturity this young man showed and the determination and intensity in which he made his commitment actually happen. I believe the experience that Henry had in this year that he was followed will prove to capture the imagination of a wide audience. My intended audience is anyone who has been affected by cancer. In addition, I expect to attract people who appreciate coming-of-age stories, stories about bravery, and stories that showcase perseverance and fortitude,
Henry’s Hair takes place beginning at the end of 2007 through the year 2009. Our story culminates as Henry completes his freshman year in High School. At the end of my film we meet Henry again this time in year 2017. He is now 23 years old. In June 2017 Henry learns that his father has been diagnosed with a terminal disease and given very little time left to live. Henry is now a full-time college student. Henry drops out of school in order to provide care for his ailing father. Henry’s decision to do this allows his father to come home from the hospital rather than being transferred to adult foster care facility. We talk to Henry about the intervening years since his mom’s death and the pending death of his father.
We learn that Henry has matured into the poignant, articulate, intelligent and caring person that we sensed he would when we first met him 10 years ago.
Risks & Challenges
A lot of the production work is complete. I used talent I secured through Northwest Documentary. I myself have a 30+ year background in producing video and film projects. I have no concern that I will not be able to bring to bear high quality talent and equipment wherever I deem it is necessary to complete this project.
