Short Summary
In 2013 I set out to create a legacy for my daughter Samantha Sharp who was injured by medical personnel when she was born. The film is titled, Amazing Grace and Dad and is currently up for consideration for entry in several film festivals for 2016. I raised the funds through IndieGoGo and learned a TON about film making and what NOT TO DO.
I have lived in Fayetteville/Fort Bragg, NC for almost ten years now. In that time I have met some of the most fascinating people I have ever had the pleasure. These are unique people with some of the most emotional stories you could ever listen to. They are United States Soldiers.
There have been many documentary films made about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the soldiers who fought in them. There has yet to be one that focuses on the men and women who call Fort Bragg home. I want to change this.
Not long ago I was privileged enough to meet a special operations soldier who took great interest in my daughter Samantha. When he met her, he got down on one knee, shook her hand, and talked TO HER - Not to me ABOUT her but to her. That made such an impact that I had serious problems fighting back the tears while making a mental note that this man, was even more unique than many I have met. Shortly after this meeting, he lost his life, while serving his country and insuring people like my daughter and I can enjoy the freedoms that this country affords.
I want to honor him and others like him by shining a light on their stories and what they have endured to keep our country free. My interactions with soldiers like him taught me how seriously they take their personal and families security, and even though he has passed away, I will not mention his name out of respect for his family whom I wish I could have met.
What We Need & What You Get
When I began making Amazing Grace and Dad I made the horrible mistake of not trusting the small production companies whom I had contacted about helping me with the project. I thought they looked at me and saw an easy buck and I paid dearly for that. I ended up buying equipment that I barely knew how to use and going at it alone. What was supposed to be a one year process became two but in the end the finished product achieved my goal.
Now, I won't make that same mistake again. I want Heroes of Bragg to stand out among the others that have been made since the War on Terror began. While I learned a wealth of knowledge before, and consider myself pretty knowledgeable on the process of documentary film making I want to tap the gold mine of the film professionals that call North Carolina home.
This costs money. I also want to compensate the soldiers who agree to be part of this film. That also costs money.
What you get is knowing that you were part of something that shed light on the stories and experiences of some of the soldiers that call Fort Bragg home.
