A Mission for Mom

Hi! I’m Melanie, the founder and owner of Hi-FiBar. Last year, my mom was diagnosed with type II diabetes and had to change her dietary habit and reduce her sugar intake. The problem is - most snack bars on the market have too much sugar, even the “healthy alternatives” use sugar-based syrup to hold everything together.  

Not being able to find anything good enough, I decided to use my years of training in food science and make one for her! At Hi-FiBar, we use a special dietary fiber blend to bind all the natural ingredients together.  Each bar has 2g or less sugar (from nuts and seeds) - this is 60-90% less sugar than other products out there!

My mom loves the bars - and so do many others!  We've sold hundreds of bars at local events and online.  Our newest fall flavor, Pumpkin Spice Orange, was an instant hit at the NJ VegFest and our granola sold out in an hour. Hi-FiBar is a great snack for everyone, but we need your help to get it into the hands of more people!

How you can help

Right now, all of our bars are made, packaged and sealed by hand by myself. While this is great for my mom, it’s hard for us to grow and get our bars in front of more people who would benefit from a truly healthy snack.  With your support, we can:

1. Upgrade packaging to help preserve freshness and prolong shelf-life
2. Register for UPC bar codes to get into stores
3. Secure pricing for bulk raw material
4. Scale up production

$7,000:   We can start upgrading packaging and scale up production

$10,000:   (GOAL!) Full upgrade onboard! “Choo-choo”!

$13,000+:   Full upgrade and we can start inventing new flavors! Suggestions welcomed!

**Note, no matter how much we raise, we will still be able to send you all the goodies, including the original (hand made) Hi-FiBar by Christmas.

The Goods

For your support, you will get our deepest gratitude and various goodies below.  All items will be shipped in time to arrive by Christmas, making Hi-FiBar a great holiday gift!

1.  Our Bars - most tiers come with a set of Hi-FiBar bars.  Variety Packs have our three original flavors and the Deluxe Variety Packs include the new Pumpkin Spice Orange.

2.  Virtual hugs and shout out on our website: You’ll get a virtual hug from me and we will have your name on our website as a supporter (if you want).

3.  Hand-written thank you note: I want to say thank you personally for your support!

4.  Hi-FiBar T-Shirt: We have 2 designs available. We’ll collect your choice and size after the campaign is over.

5.  Foldable water bottle: Not enough room for a bottle or can’t carry a bottle of water through security? This BPA free, leak resistant, reusable, foldable water bottle is great for you! It keeps you hydrated and collapses flat when empty.

6.  Walking Enthusiast Kit: Walking is the most popular exercise in the country and this kit gets you all you need for a walk or short hike. It includes a shoulder pack with BPA-free water bottle, multi-function pedometer, zippered storage with earphone exit and reflective piping (strips) for safety. You can wear it across your body (like a slingpack) or around the waist (like a hip pack). Let’s get moving!

7.  The Charitable Hi-FiBar: We participated in the “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes” event hosted by the American Diabetes Association this month. All the hard work on developing and making Hi-FiBar was worth it when I saw the smile of a kid, born with type 1 diabetes, enjoying a long deserved snack, Hi-FiBar.  We decided right there that we are going next year, too.  If you choose this option, we will donate $300 of product to an American Diabetes Association event in your name.

8.  Hi-FiBar Enthusiast: Love Hi-FiBar and have an idea for a new flavor? You are the Hi-FiBar enthusiast! I will work with you to develop a new flavor. You’ll be involved as much as you want and of course you’ll get all the other goodies too!

Risks & Challenges

No endeavor is ever without it's challenges - and while we hope to have smooth sailing we think we could possibly run in to some of the following obstacles we may have to work to overcome:

• Like all other food products, there is always the risk of raw material shortages, price fluctuations or the need to replace suppliers to maintain quality.
• It may take longer to find partners whom we trust and who meet our quality standard to help make the bars.
• We may be required to make small adjustments to the formula when we scale up production, but we will make every effort to keep the same healthy nutrition profile.
