Thirty year old Joe Ridley meets Elly, the
woman of his dreams. They should live happily ever after, shouldn't
they? As Joe and Elly's relationship develops, he finds it increasingly
difficult to hide the dark thoughts tormenting his mind. In a refreshing
change of pace, the story presents us with depression from the
"Hi" side as well as the "Lo."
James Kermack writes from personal
experience and delves into aspects of depression not previously seen on screen.
As the euphoria of love meets the despair of a reconciled past, Hi-Lo Joe
explores a man who lives in two worlds - when they finally collide, we can only
watch and see which side will emerge at the finish line. Check the teaser below.
Why we are
making this Film:
This
campaign is important to James Kermack, as having lived with depression himself
for 20 years, he has written this script from experience.
Depression
and mental health are still not talked about as much as it should be. But the
statistics speak for themselves.
a) It's
likely we all work with at least one person suffering from a mental health
problem.
b) 1 in
4 people will experience a mental health problem in any given year.
c) 1 in 10
young people will experience a mental health problem.
d) People
with a mental illness are more likely to be a victim of violence.
e) 9 out of
10 people with mental health problems experience stigma and discrimination.
By helping
fund our film, you will not only contribute to the film's production, you will
be a part of the outreach to those who suffer from the effects of
depression.
We have been
very lucky to have assembled such a fantastic and experienced cast and crew,
all of whom have come on board for the most minimal fee, based on the strength
of the project.

WHAT WE NEED
& WHAT YOU GET
We need your
support to raise a micro budget, and shoot an excellent story. Location,
equipment, food for our hardworking team, insurance, travel expenses, visual
FX, design, post-production and our beautiful arri Alexa Camera (used to film
Gravity, The Hunger Games, Life of Pi, Iron Man 3 and Skyfall) are all
included.
For a
feature film this budget is incredibly small; we're able to keep it small
because great deals of skilled people are coming on board to help purely on the
strength of the project.
We have a
range of exciting perks to being a collaborator with us. From signed scripts
and photos, to being in the film, exciting workshops with key members of the
team and exclusive cast and crew screenings.
THE IMPACT
This project
has the potential to show the intricacies of depression and start a dialogue.
We've already started receiving messages to this affect so let’s keep the
momentum going. The story is honest, hopeful, and funny and will be visually
beautiful. So join us in making that happen.
OTHER WAYS TO HELP
We ask that
if you find the project interesting that you share the link, talk to us, and
make some noise and help us get the word out to other potential Hi-Lo Joe
supporters. You can do this by using the Indiegogo share tools!
Thank you
for taking the time to look through Hi-Lo Joe, and we look forward to working
with you.
