Short Summary
My name is Stephen Blackmon, I'm the writer, director and producer of High Stakes Game, and the organizer of the Forkshop (Filmmakers' Workshop). We teach, support and connect independent filmmakers, actors and crew here in Atlanta. And this film, High Stakes will be the first feature officially made under the banner of the Forkshop.
As the trailer suggests it's an ensemble suspense film about the attempt to save lives at a high stakes poker game. There are plenty of secrets, Indecent-Proposal-style challenges and twists to keep you guessing. And for those who choose to look deeper there's even more at play.
The Forkshop was created to give people a chance to get into filmmaking who may not be able to afford film school, those whose views or sensibilities may be contrary to those of Hollywood, and those who don't have "connections" in the film industry. Over the years I've had the opportunity as a publisher to help people tell their stories well. I've had the chance to help people transition from "wanting to do it", or "dreaming it," to "did it", and "doing it professionally." Well, one person alone can write a book, but it takes a community to make a film. The Forkshop is developing and empowering a community of filmmakers to tell great stories. Maybe you have an idea for a film, but don't have millions of dollars or know where to start. Follow this link to see one possibility: https://youtu.be/fXgaPjYnBSc
What We Need & What You Get
We're trying to raise $25,000 for the production and initial release of the film. More will help us to market better and release wider, but the initial amount will allow us to pay:
- Production costs (Equipment rental, insurance, craft services, transportation, props)
- Post Production costs (audio mastering, deliverables, a few effects shots processing/programming, etc)
- Film Festival Entry fees
- Marketing to potential outlets/distributors
- Cast and Crew
We will post an assortment of cool gifts, clothing, custom card decks and items from the film, and promotional material you will receive for your assistance. There are also opportunities for imdb credit, and even a walk on role in this film, or an ongoing role in our next project, a related television series. We appreciate your help and will show it.
Risks & Challenges
Starting a film school without some large grant or endowment is no small task. We have been up and operating for nearly two years with only one primary sponsor, yet have seen amazing growth and great results. This video shows more about the Forkshop (https://youtu.be/fXgaPjYnBSc), and you can see a number of our short films on www.theforkshop.com and our youtube page. We currently reach 2600 filmmakers and actors in the Atlanta area, and the number rises daily.
We believe strongly in learning through practical application and starting where you are with whatever you have available. We have. Prove what you can do with a little and you earn a chance to try it at the next level. And this film is that next step for us. It's an opportunity. And it will help us provide a vast number of opportunities for others.
Other Ways You Can Help
Whether you have the funds to help or not, please spread the word about our film and the Forkshop. There are tools here on this site to help share it. Or if you are interested in filmmaking, come out to one of our events and meet some fellow filmmakers. We regularly shoot short films and other videos at our events. Connect with some folks who can help you get to where you want to go. Any help you can provide is appreciated!
