Hello!
Thank you so much for finding my page! My name is Jack Hinks. I am a singer-songwriter based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I want to create a short piece of film on mental health awareness, which will be accompanied by a song I have written on the same subject, called 'Fabric'. The song is about the daily struggle facing those who suffer from mental disorders, and our film will be an open-to-interpretation take on the song. This is a multidisciplinary project using the mediums of dance, physical theatre, film, and of course music, to show how those who suffer from mental health problems have to balance with its burdens on a daily basis. With your help, we hope to create something tangible, and capable of opening a dialogue for people who battle with their mental health.
What We Need & What You Get
We are pulling as many favours as we can, but a film project needs money. Everyone involved in the project is doing so voluntarily, and no one is out to make money. I am simply trying to cover costs so that the people who care about this project and have already given a lot of their time, creativity and expertise aren't losing out or endangering themselves by contributing.
To help do this, we have some incredible perks for your perusal! Our rewards range from £5 to £75, but any amount of money you would like to give goes a long way, and we deeply appreciate the support from the bottom of our hearts. All the money we raise will go towards funding the project. Most of the money we need to raise to is cover film equipment hire, and venue hires for our shoot location and launch/premiere. If by some luck, we end up needing less than we expected or raise more than our goal, all excess will go directly to 'Beat'. 'Beat' is a charity that helps those battling with eating disorders. This is a cause very close to me and my partner, about for whom the song was written.
The Impact
This film has been a long time in dreams, preparations, writing, and hard work from a lot of creatives and incredible people. I truly believe that through this project, we can shine a light on areas that far too often remain out of public focus. I am working alongside names such as Perry Jonsson (Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Martell Cognac, Loud Poets), Edinburgh-based 'Double Take Productions' fresh from their Advent Calendar projection on the General Register House, and Siam Colvine, an experienced filmmaker and designer (Antibiotic Apocalypse, I Am Disorder, Hinks - No One). Everyone involved with this project brings another layer of insight and experience, particularly to a subject that is often synonymous with the creative industry. What we create will be real, and I hope it will resonate with many people
Risks & Challenges
As with any project, there are risks. All of our equipment and film cameras will be handled by qualified professionals, and safety is our paramount concern. Our shoot venue (Old Lab - Summerhall) is professionally equipped and our actor has been taking physical theatre and movement classes to prepare herself for the space.
Other Ways You Can Help
We completely understand that not everyone is able to contribute financially, but there are still many ways in which you can help our cause! Simply sharing our crowdfunding page, telling a friend and keeping an eye out for when (all being well) our film is released sometime mid-2018. Any extra publicity we can get is a massive help, and we appreciate all the efforts people put in to help us spread our message. We'll be having a launch for the film and single release, and we'd love to see you and a friend there! Details are still TBC, but you can keep up to date with any news as it happens by following my page on whichever platform suits you best. Or even drop me an email if you want to chat! You can contact me (Jack) at 'hinksmusic@gmail.com', and I'll do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. Also, any backers will be added to my new mailing list to keep them updated with any shoot progress, gigs or upcoming news. If you would rather I remove your name from my subsription you need only email me and I'll do so immediately. Thank you so much if you've read this far, and for your support and time. Together we can open up a dialogue and make a difference for those who need it. Thank you.
