Who We Are

DEVIN SHEARS – WRITER/DIRECTOR

My name is Devin Shears, I'm from Torbay, Newfoundland, the dog's name is Misten, and I'm currently in my final year in the Ryerson Image Arts Film program. Throughout my time here I have written, produced and directed several projects, along with acting as production designer for a few others. My filmmaking interests are images as memory, space as character, and sick monsters.

MITHILA MAJITHIA - PRODUCER

Hi, I’m Mithila and I am an International student from Hong Kong. The first film I ever produced at Ryerson was titled ‘Lay in Wake’ during which I managed to convince a kind lady at the St. Michaels Cathedral into letting us put an actor in a fold-out bed in the main aisle of the cathedral and shoot it. Ever since – I have mostly produced and assistant directed on films at Ryerson. I spend my time working at a TV production company in Toronto, cooking, trying not to kill my rosemary plant and worrying about things at 2am.

What Our Film Is About

Despite its toxic atmosphere, people come to the forest of Hiraeth in search of a mythical creature named Bog, who is said to grant the inner desire of whoever it meets. Zee has built her whole life around the forest, spending years harvesting rare flowers that grow in the forest. However, visions of a former partner have been haunting her, and the folklore of the forest starts to seem less like stories. Hiraeth is a fantasy film about being lost in your own world.

Why We Need This Money

In short, festival submissions are our biggest incentive to crowdfund for Hiraeth. Additionally, you would help support our future endeavors and also assist in recouping some of what we spent during production.

Our Experience

For a production crew of around 13 people to spending five days shooting outdoors for 10 hours everyday, we somehow managed to have an insanely good time. Trials aside - it was a truly memorable production process and not one that we're likely to forget!

A sincere thanks from all of us!
