Story synopsis
Neil is a 23-year-old, up and coming game developer based in Los Angeles, California. While competent in what he does for a living, he’s a slacker in his personal life. Inconsiderate about the needs of the people around him, he goes about life with an easy go lucky attitude. His roommate, Chris, on the other hand, is a caring and sensitive however, awkward and inappropriately funny person. They have the perfect bromance.
One day, when Neil is with his girlfriend, Lia, at her place, she starts complaining of a stomach ache. Neil is taken aback by the nature of this pain and is unsure how to help. They go to bed. In the middle of the night, a horny Neil rushes to the bathroom and starts masturbating. Lia wakes up and rushes to the bathroom as she’s got her period, only to find Neil in a compromising position.
Disgusted by what she’s seen she kicks him out of the bathroom and tends to her needs. She gets out and requests an apologetic Neil to get her sanitary pads from the pharmacy across the road. He blatantly refuses. Shocked by his audacity, she wishes for him to go through the same pain that she’s going through and asks him to leave. On his way out, Neil stumbles upon one of Lia’s paintings, one that of the Hindu goddess, Kali, in a terrifying avatar. Petrified, Neil rushes home. The very same night, Neil wakes up in a pool of his own blood, originating from his rectum, and with terrible cramps. He has got his period, just as Chris enters their house from a long night of partying, with his girlfriend Lizzy, whom Neil despises. What ensues, is a roller coaster ride for Neil, as Chris and Lizzy try to figure out what’s wrong with him. Is it a curse or divine intervention?

Director's statement
Hi, I'm Nihal Vasudevan, a filmmaker based in LA. I have a penchant for dark comedies to drive home layered ideas viscerally to the audience. This short film is very personal to me. As a writer and director, I think its extremely crucial to speak about issues that connect with you and create a healthy discussion amongst the audience who eventually consume it. This project stemmed from seeing my mother and sister go through issues related to feminine health that were considered taboo, to discuss, during my growing years. Men, for the longest, have steered clear from wanting to understand and engage in a discussion with their female counterparts regarding menstruation. It pains me to realize that there are still men out there who think it’s not masculine enough to have these conversations or offer a helping hand to the women in their lives during those weeks of the month. Hence, this project. Content, when laced with humor tends to inform and educate.
A month before writing this project I happened to have a conversation with my girlfriend who jokingly told me that men have it easy. Furthering the conversation, I realized the gravity of that statement.
Truth is, men don't bleed and don’t go through the troubles of childbirth, so why not at least speak about it openly, acknowledge it and spread the word.

The outcome, at the very least
This short film embraces so many of the things women feel about their body and how it works, but have been too scared or uncomfortable to address. By reversing the rules of nature, we start a conversation to part with the conditioning and put into perspective for all to empathize with the bloody reality of womanhood and evolution.
Maybe it's her time of the month, but maybe it's you - step up to show your women, the real care! “Every girl, no matter where she lives, deserves the opportunity to develop the promise inside of her.”— Michelle Obama
