Our Story

Peach Basket Books was born out of a dream to create a romance-only indie bookshop in Durham, North Carolina. With a tendency to take on DIY projects that are bigger than her skillset, bookseller Meredith had the idea to renovate a vintage camper and set off in late 2022 to bring home a 1967 Shasta Compact.

It still sits in her driveway.

If we want to hit the road in spring 2025, we'll need your help!

What Comes Next

Two+ years of renovations have stretched our resources. Can you help get us over the DIY finish line?? Here's what we still need to fund:

Bringing romance to the Bull City

Our goal is to spread our love of romance in the greater Durham area--to new and seasoned romance readers alike! Peach Basket Books will set up with bookshelves and bookish merch inside and outside the camper, drawing in readers to a warm and welcoming shopping experience. We aim to be a safe space for our community, loudly supporting LGBTQ+ rights and bodily autonomy in the Tar Heel State. Peach Basket Books will bring together fans and authors to celebrate the genre we all love.
