We plan to donate all left over money to other breast cancer patients who need help to get these other treatments as well.

An account has been set up at Coast Capital Savings Credit Union. Donations can be made to this account at any of their branches located across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. The account name is under "Diana Leach in Trust".

Anything helps, small or large amounts we thank you so much for your time and your donation.

Hobson (affectionate nickname) was first diagnosed with breast cancer about four years ago. She had a double mastectomy then underwent several harsh chemo and radiation treatments. The chemo was so intense that she would be sick in bed for days. There were blisters all inside her mouth and down her throat. She had trouble walking because her feet and hands were so blistered and raw. It was a very rough year but the results were good and we thought we beat it. We had a christmas celebration with all our closest friends and family and thought everything was great. We were starting over. Then she started to get pain in her back.

When the doctors checked, our worst nightmare came true that the cancer metastasized. It had spread into her lungs, ribs, spine, some muscles in her back and more recently into her adrenal glands. Hobson once again underwent several painful radiation treatments and milder chemo treatments. In conjunction with these treatments she has also been taking lots of vitamins and minerals, juicing vegetables with fruits, eating mostly vegan and only organic. She has also been undergoing various other treatments. She starts with a vitamin C treatment twice a week for ($150.00 each time). Additionally she gets localized hyperthermia ($400.00 each time) twice a week and full body hyperthermia ($1000.00 each time) once a month. Hyperthermia is a type of cancer treatment in which body tissue is exposed to high temperatures (up to 113°F) to damage and kill cancer cells. She also receives a Xgeva shot once a month. It is a bone strengthening treatment to help where the cancer has eaten through her ribs and spine. These treatments help to boost Hobson’s immune system; by opening the body’s vessels to assist the chemotherapy so it can penetrate deeper into the cancerous tissues and destroy them. And on top of all this she also has chemotherapy every second thursday. Furthermore Hobson has several pain medications that are also very expensive. We wanted to host this fundraiser to help pay for these treatments.

There is a clinic in Tijuana that creates something called the dendritic cell vaccine. They will take her blood cells and cancer cells to create a vaccine specifically catered for destroying the cancer that is in Hobson’s body. The fundraiser is mainly for this dendritic cell vaccine. Unfortunately it’s not offered in Canada yet. The dendritic cell vaccine is currently only being researched in Canada and the United States. With your help Hobson will be able to get to the hospital in Santa Barbara, California. Once there, she will be driven across the border to Tijuana to start gathering her T cells and cancer cells to create the dendritic cell vaccine. She will be going back and forth because we plan to continue doing all of her other treatments as well.

Thank you again,

Julie, Michelle and Duncan.
