Hello! I am Danny Finegood's son Matthew. I have always wanted to change the Hollywood sign with my dad. We considered completely covering the Hollywood sign for April Fools Day, but refrained until we felt a truly important statement needed to be made. Unfortunately Dad passed away in 2006 of Multiple Myeloma but I'm confident that if he were alive on January 1st 2017 we would have run into other courageous sign changers in the dark of the night. Danny was an artist, activist, furniture maker, neon sign collector and just a heart warming soul.
Friends and family have long requested an original "Hollyweed" shirt, yet I have been reluctant to commercialize my dad's achievement. But with recent legislation and new political threats to California's democratic approval of recreational marijuana use, I feel it's time for everyone to celebrate and have an opportunity to make their OWN statement.
This Campaign has multiple objectives
- To sell vintage 'Hollyweed' apparel to anyone and everyone
- To offer apparel to customize the Hollywood sign to say anything you wish - in the same font and on the real Mt Lee Landscape... IMAGINE in BIG BOLD LETTERS...
- D O D G E R W O O D
- B U M P G U M P
- D U M P T R U M P
- G O O D W O O D ... or anything you have to say!
Campaign supporters will have an iconic medium to express their creativity and beliefs.
What We Need & What You Get
The Hollyweed campaign's goal is $10,000. However flexible funding will go toward HOLLYWEED TSHIRTS.

- Maintain and advertise websites for www.TheHollyweedSign.com - We have already purchased the domain names.
- Purchase a first round launch inventory of vintage "Hollyweed" t-shirts.
- All contributors will receive a free "Hollyweed" poster or "Hollyweed" t-shirt representing a photograph of the sign on January 1st on 1976, with a caption tribute!
- $3-5000 for web design - I'm currently building a low cost weebly site for initial Hollyweed T-shirts but the goal is a custom Hollywood Sign Design t-shirt site.
- $3-500 for first Ad Blitz
- $3000 for initial t-shirt inventory - roughly 300 screen-printed shirts in a few colors and sizes.

The Impact
This campaign is great because it allows people to make their own statement using an incredible and identifiable landmark. Danny Finegood believed Environmental Sculpture and Art allowed opportunity to alter perspective and reality without harming the environment. This project gives everyone to use a legendary environmental sculpture to make a powerful statement, political or fun, that doesn't harm the environment.
I also plan to donate 5% of each customers $ purchase to their choice of charity - The ACLU to protect our civil liberties - The Institute of Multiple Myeloma - a TBD marijuana organization - or a College Art School Scholarship program.
