LOGLINE

HOME, follows a successful, black woman who buys a house on her own. Soon, she begins to feel trapped inside, haunted by memories of her ex and taunted by the imaginings of what might have been. HOME is a grounded ghost story in the way that exes often feel like they haunt your mind. This soft, aching, and eerie film is a story of Black angst and queer longing. We rarely see black people centered in films like this.

WHO AM I?

My name is Kimberly Ndombe, and I’m an Angolan-American TV drama writer and producer who has written on numerous shows including SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, RAISING DION, and the upcoming Netflix Judy Blume adaptation of FOREVER.

WHAT WE NEED

Over MLK Weekend, my crew and I worked tirelessly to shoot our film. We made it through production, but now I need your help to help finish this project. I am raising $12,500 to pay for post-production.

YOUR IMPACT

As a writer and director, I’m interested in expanding the way blackness is depicted on screen. How many films feature Black professors or Black painters? These members of the literati are usually reserved for white actors in the dysfunctional relationship and family dramas of white, male auteurs. Where is the black Scenes from a Marriage or The Squid and the Whale? These are the films I long to make. Films that assert that our existential angst is worth exploring even when detached from trauma. I seek to affirm the breadth of blackness in my work, and that's what I'm doing with HOME. And if I’ve learned anything in my decades plus career in Hollywood, it’s that you need to make the films you want to see.

Any amount you give will go a long way in bringing this film to life. And you should know that your dollar is supporting a majority women-led team full of queer, BIPOC, and international voices. I wrote HOME in late 2020, during the height of the pandemic. My creative collaborator Alicia Atterberry quickly joined the project as a producer, helping me hone my vision and put the pieces in place to bring this piece to life. We’ve built out our team to include accomplished producer, Vivian Johnson Rogowski, award-winning director of photography, Rebecca Basaure, and Leigh Jonte, a casting director who has been integral in casting iconic shows and films like INSECURE, THE MINDY PROJECT, and ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD.

I love the collaborative nature of filmmaking. And I feel so grateful to have had so much support in getting this project made already. I’m so close to making this a reality. And I’m counting on you to help me get there.

Thank you!

Kim
