Short Summary
When it comes to the arts, I have always been the first to put my acting chops to the test. A few years down the line and that slowly migrated to film production and then eventually into directing. But before all else, it was music that drew me closer to the arts. Being exposed to music, theater, and dance at such an early age really stuck with me. It wasn’t until my senior year at Minersville Area High School that I started to notice that not everyone felt the same way about it as I.
That’s when I decided to run for Homecoming Queen. Yes, I did say queen.
Homecoming Queen brings us to Derby High School, a place
where the jocks and the debutants rule the halls. But in those halls
lurk three very interesting pranksters, Snyder, Elliot, and Tiny Pete. As
the school is gearing up to begin its Homecoming celebrations,
Snyder, a student who doesn't take school seriously, devises a plan to
raise money for his friends, whose scholarships he inadvertently had
revoked. With his two best friends, Elliot, and Tiny angry with him, it's
up to him to figure out a way to win their money back. He begins to
notice how the school operates and sees just how much athletics are
valued over the arts in his school.
He convinces Elliot to follow him on the rode to win his
scholarship back. That plan? Running for Homecoming Queen. After
weeks of raising money they finally have it all stripped away by the
superintendent who fails to see why they were really doing it in the
first place; to fight the status quo. With the arts in the school slowly
getting defunded with budget cuts and more publicity being shifted to
the school's athletic department, the gang decides enough is enough,
getting the voices of the students to speak up and fight for a chance
to be seen. What started as another moneymaking scheme, slowly
transitions to a fight for those who get over looked, for those who
make high school bearable with music, art and laughter.
With the help of their friend Olivia they manage to beat the
system and create their own scholarship for those students who never
get noticed, learning that it may be easy to win for yourself, but
winning for others is a reward you can't put a price on. Through hijinks
and pranks, fundraisers and bake sales these boys learn that all you
need is to fight for what you feel is right, and sooner or later, your
voice will be heard. Inspired by true events.
As a student filmmaker I have been able to, shoot, edit, produce and even star in short films that have all helped me grow as an artist. I have officially finished a schedule, budget and have commenced in the casting process. My crew consists of other professionals I have met along my journey and am pleased to work with them again. Everyone is gearing up to begin one of the biggest productions we have yet to put together. I put my passion into this craft and know that I can and will create a fun and very important film.
What We Need & What You Get
We have just finished our casting process and are moving into our next phase, that’s where you come in. With a project of this size we estimate that our overall budget will fall somewhere between $5,000-$8,000. This will cover equipment rentals, location fees and insurance, transportation fees, cast and crew payment, post production and sound mastering and of course my personal favorite, food.
Can’t spare a penny? There are other ways you can help like sharing our link on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or wherever your heart desires. Also make sure to check out our prizes down below. You could even be featured in the movie and even get your own tiara signed by the cast and crew.
The Impact
This film is based off of my experiences and has been rooted with conversations and events that did indeed happen, in a more exaggerated fashion of course. What I want is to bring the arts back to school. And at the very least I know that it will create a conversation that may not be happening at this time. With this film I believe I can show children, adolescents, and adults alike that if you run for what you think is right, then eventually people will run beside you. By showing how my adventure was worth the rallying cry, it shows just how much art inspires, creates, and brings people together, and in the end of it all, isn’t that what life is all about?
Risks & Challenges
Of course there are always risks, one being that we may not raise enough funds. If that happens, no worries, my years of experience as a producer for other films has strengthened my ability to prepare multiple budgets as contingencies. Other risks can easily be solved should they come up with the team behind this film. We have worked on multiple projects together and have a strong enough collective knowledge to solve issues as they come. Your money is in good hands.
Other Ways You Can Help
I truly believe we can do great things with this film and hopefully bring the arts back into our schools. Who knows, it might even inspire someone to change the status quo in their own way. Thank you so much for taking the time to read, watch and donate. Please don't forget to share this campaign's page on Facebook and Twitter so we can bring this film to life! Now, who wants to make some movie magic?!
