Hi there, this is Erica Orosco Cruz, Director and Founder of Homeschool Garden, a small school (in the Los Angeles area) established in 2001. I'm here because I'm dedicated to revolutionizing education. I've worked with children and their families for over 20 years in a public school, corporate care, private schools, as a camp counselor, parent educator, and as a private nanny. I searched to find a program that brought children to the forefront, while providing clear boundaries for mutual respect, where children would be seen and heard and where adults would see with new eyes and listen for what was unsaid. Homeschool Garden is based on those values and we have developed a school model that provides an environment where children, families, and teachers can thrive and grow together on the foundation of mutual respect.
What has been created is
A community of families and friendships that are long lasting even years after the families have graduated from the school program
A growing organic garden, that is harvested for our nutritious organic meals. Wholesome food that is cooked on site and provided for all the children and faculty
Small individualized group care for children during their foundational years
Support for families through workshops, parent conferences, and community for the child’s developing transitions is all inclusive
This campaign is to bring Homeschool Garden's model to more families and provide an opportunity for more children to grow organically
*Provide for our non profit application process
*Sustain the current program offerings: including scholarships to families,
multi-language offerings, and specialty teachers
*Allow for growth as we transition and reach out to further spread the model and revolutionize the education status quo
What I've witnessed over the years is the strength in the community. Children at school are like family, when you create the environment for it. They support, interact, and engage, it's what they observe from each other, the faculty, and their families.
