The Power of Stories

We are heading into the 12th season of Hope in Shadows, a successful community project that hosts an annual photography contest on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

We hope you will join our collective of visionary supporters to help us finance this project - please help us raise $5,000 by August 15th to help cover expenses for the year.

Costs include purchasing 250 single-use cameras, processing over 8,000 photographs (colour/black+white), producing 15,000 calendars, and providing sales training and resources for 200 vendors.

Your support ensures that Downtown Eastside residents are able to share their stories in the calendars and to earn an income through the vendor network.

Here's How It Works

The winning photos from the contest are featured in a calendar and sold through a growing vendor network of low income and homeless people. Our vendors begin with a free calendar, sell it for $20, and then purchase additional calendars for $10 each, earning $10 each time they make a sale.

The project builds resilience and self-esteem for Downtown Eastside residents as it allows them to express themselves, share their stories, and participate in the economy in a meaningful way.

Please consider making a tax deductible donation and sharing this campaign with friends and family. We hope you will support the 2015 calendar!

Sincerely,

Peter Wrinch, Executive Director, Pivot Legal Society

PS - A tax receipt for 100% of your donation will be issued by the Pivot Foundation, a charitable foundation that works to build a community of support for charitable activities that aim to end poverty and marginalization.

The Pivot Foundation has a number of charitable partners, but primarily grants to Hope in Shadows Inc. a federally registered charity that works to empower, educate, train, and improve the quality of life of people living in poverty.
