Formula Student (FS) is Europe's most established educational motorsport competition, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The competition aims to inspire and develop enterprising and innovative young engineers. Universities from across the globe are challenged to design and build a single-seat racing car in order to compete in static and dynamic events, which demonstrate their understanding and test the performance of the vehicle.
Our team was founded in 2010 by students Jerome Greenhalgh and Brian Houston and competed for the first time in July 2012. Our team is self-funded and receive most of their funding from local companies through sponsorship opportunities.
This year, 2014/15, we have one of our largest teams to date consisting of around 25 members. Over the years, the team and the car have progressed greatly. Our team this year has been sorted into departments and unlike previous years, has begun working on the car well ahead of time. Although the car has come on in leaps and bounds since the project began, this year we hope to make substantial improvements to the car so that we can compete with the higher tier cars of the competition.
Aims:
- for the car to weigh no more than 275kg
- to move to a green fuel - bio-ethanol (E85)
- to complete all challenges set out for the competition and finish higher than we have in previous years
We would be greatly appreciative for any assistance offered in helping us achieve our goals for this coming year!
