Children are sitting and learning in classrooms every day. Throughout British Columbia – and the rest of Canada – they are being taught math, science, reading and writing skills, and teamwork. But they also need to be taught compassion and kindness. And that’s where Humane Education comes in.

The Association for the Protection of Fur-Bearing Animals (The Fur-Bearers) provides in-class solutions to teachers facing ongoing cutbacks or budget crises. Our classroom packs include lesson plans, posters, handouts, videos and books – all of which help foster critical thinking, problem solving skills and compassion in the world’s future leaders.

About The Fur-Bearers

Since 1953, The Fur-Bearers have sought non-lethal solutions to traps, opposed the fur trade and provided education to Canadians on wildlife issues. As a non-profit society in British Columbia, The Fur-Bearers have seen great success in providing solutions to municipalities and property owners across Canada.

What we need

Our popular humane education program is ready to grow – and we need your support. If we are able to meet our goal of $15,000, we’ll be able to provide 17 classrooms (of 30 students) full humane education packages. These packages include:

  • Printed and digital copies of lesson plans (for teacher and students)
  • Field Guides to Canada’s Fur-Bearers (for teacher and students)
  • Wildlife posters (for classroom)
  • City Critters by Nicholas Read (for teacher and 30 students)
  • Newsletters, buttons and stickers (for teacher and students)

The cost of one pack – enough for 30 students and a teacher – is $850 (including shipping).

Our program was developed with the assistance of a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia, but can be easily adapted for curriculums across Canada.

By supporting our Humane Education campaign, you’re supporting a future that believes in compassion and kindness as core values; a future where leaders respect and care for wildlife and the environment; and a future where “humane” is not just a word, but a way of life.

If you’re unable to give, please share this campaign with others and help us meet our goal!
