Thanks for visiting our crowdfunder for our film, I Love You In Different Ways. The film tells the story of a young gay teen, Lucian, struggling with his sexuality. Set against the backdrop of the year 2000 and under the oppressive Section 28 law, Lucian faces a world of isolation, confusion, and shame as he begins to explore his desires in secret. His journey towards self-acceptance is both heartbreaking and hopeful.
We feel this story is important to tell, as it sheds light on a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history, one that many people, particularly queer youth, can relate to. We’ve secured initial funding, but we need your support to make this film a reality. By contributing, you’re helping us bring a poignant, authentic, and emotional story to the screen. Your support will make a huge difference in how this film reaches audiences and sparks conversations around identity, love, and courage.
What We Need & What You Get
We have been fortunate to have received the backing from a big film and television charitable organisation, but in order to complete production and post-production for I Love You In Different Ways, we are looking to raise an additional ÂŁ5,000.
Here’s a breakdown of where the funds will go:
- Production Costs: Including location fees, casting, set design, costumes, and props.
- Post-Production: Editing, sound design, and a sound track.
- Festival Submissions: We plan to submit the finished film to festivals around the world to get it in front of as many eyes as possible and give it the recognition it deserves.

Meet the Team
Joseph Wilson (Director & Writer)
Joseph (he/him) is a queer artist, activist, and drag performer living in East London, deeply embedded in the vibrant LGBTQ+ community. His art speaks to the lived experiences of queer people, as well as the untold stories from his own life. Joseph’s approach to filmmaking is raw, personal, and fearless, drawing from both his activism and his background in performance art. His work has been showcased at some of the most prestigious global platforms, including the BFI London Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, and Karlovy Vary, among others. Joseph’s piece “Fragments Between Us” was celebrated at the New Art Project gallery in London in 2022 and is just one example of his ability to turn personal narratives into impactful art.
Joseph’s distinct artistic vision has garnered recognition in the art world and beyond, earning him the CIRCA Prize, an award chosen by Marina Abramovic, which led to his work being displayed on the iconic Piccadilly Circus in London, Shinjuku in Tokyo, and K-Pop Square in Seoul. His passion for queer representation and storytelling makes him the perfect director to bring I Love You In Different Ways to life.
Juliette Larthe (Producer)
Juliette Larthe (she/her) is a filmmaker, poet/writer and producer whose career spans decades at the intersection of film, art, and cultural rebellion. In 2023, she founded Pure Phase, a boutique production company dedicated to crafting work that entertains to ignite change.
Rejecting rigid conventions, Larthe embraces an anti-discipline, medium-agnostic approach to storytelling—seamlessly moving between narrative drama, feature and short films, music videos, live installations, art films, and documentaries. Her work is defined by a fearless commitment to challenging societal norms, amplifying marginalized voices, and pushing the boundaries of visual and narrative expression.
Driven by an unshakable belief in the power of film to provoke, disrupt, and inspire, Larthe collaborates with like-minded artists, thinkers, and revolutionaries to create work that is both deeply personal and profoundly impactful. Whether exposing raw truths or constructing bold new visions, she is relentless in her pursuit of art that resonates, disrupts, and leaves an indelible mark on culture.
Benji Landman (Producer)
Benji Landman (he/him) is a producer and production manager with a rich background in the fashion, commercial, and music video industries. Over the years, Benji has worked with some of the world’s biggest names in fashion, including Alexander McQueen, Loewe, and Vogue, and has collaborated with iconic pop stars like Kylie Minogue, Primal Scream, and Rita Ora. In addition to his production work, Benji is passionate about social causes, having collaborated with brands like Ciroc, Dr. Martens, and Unilever to promote diversity, inclusion, and LGBTQ+ visibility.
I Love You In Different Ways marks Benji’s debut as a short film producer, and his wealth of experience in the creative industry will be a vital asset in managing the production’s logistics, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Benji’s deep commitment to LGBTQ+ issues and his proven ability to bring big creative visions to life make him an ideal producer for this project.
Risks & Challenges
Like with any creative project, there are risks. We are currently in the final development phase and will be shooting in London toward the end of May. However, the timeline and budget are tight, and securing the final piece of funding and the green light for production are still in progress. We are working hard to overcome these hurdles, and we’re confident that with the team we have, we can rise to the challenge.
We are aware of potential obstacles and have a clear plan to address them. The team has extensive experience managing budgets, working with tight schedules, and delivering high-quality work. If we encounter any challenges along the way, we’re ready to adapt and find creative solutions to ensure the film stays on track.
