About the Project

The Ice Bullet helps you pack a smarter cooler by freezing your beer to replace ice allowing you to pack more of what you love. By encapsulating the weakest part of the can and allowing room for expansion at the concave bottom you can avoid the explosion. The Ice Bullet lasts longer than ice so you can keep your cooler colder longer. 

How it Started

The concept came from Zack's annual rafting trip in Idaho. Trying to keep beer cold until the last day where temperatures can reach 100+ degrees is nearly impossible. To keep the beer cold until the last day the beer would have to be colder from the start or use more ice. Using more ice wasn't an option because of limited cooler space and freezing the cans would cause them to explode in the freezer. After three days in the hot sun, Zack thought that by containing the weakest part of the can and exploiting the concave bottom would allow the cans to freeze without exploding.

How it was Developed

Back home from Idaho, Zack shared his idea with Joe which led to some interesting proof of concept experiments. We started with cardboard boxes and concrete - there were a few can explosions, but thankfully no one was injured. After the general concept was proven, Zack built an epoxy fixture which allowed for repeatable trials. After a summer of data collection Zack finalized drawings for the Ice Bullet tool build.

Progress

 

Our tool arrived in April 2016. We have selected our US manufacturer and material suppliers and are ready to run production. After the campaign we will place the order and the manufacturer will start producing. Deliveries will start in July.
