LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING!!!!
So at first glance, you would think that this campaign fell short of its goal . . . Well, I am happy to tell you that, not only did this campaign achieve its stated goal, it exceeded it! In total, we raised $2542 (141%)! I am so honored and grateful to the thirteen contributors that made this campaign a success!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
My name is Damon “Idiomz” Curtis and I am an emcee/beat maker;
and, member of the Last Lyricists Music family. I’ve been involved in hip-hop for
most of my adult life releasing my debut album “Come Hell or High Water” in
2010 and following up in 2012 with the EP “The Gemini Effect.”
I love hip-hop
because it provides me a conduit through which I can freely express who I am
and why I am.
But even more important than the success I have enjoyed as
an independent hip-hop artist is the fact that I am a fan of hip-hop first. And it is because of my fandom that I have
decided to come to you, my fellow fans of hip-hop, to engage with me in a
movement – a movement to breathe new life into this hip-hop that we so love.
The Impact
I can remember first falling in love with hip-hop when I was
ten years old listening to “Planet Rock” on vinyl with my auntie. There was
something special about hip-hop back then. Fast forward thirty years later and
the stuff that is called hip-hop today has lost its edge. I will never claim
that hip-hop is dead; but, I will claim that it’s time to rekindle the flame
that made hip-hop the cultural movement that it was and is.
That is why I am launching this, “The Year of the Boom-Bap”
campaign on IndieGoGo – so that with your help, we can replace the gimmick in
hip-hop with artistry and a love for the craft.
What I Need & What You Get
Through this campaign, I hope to raise enough funds to
facilitate the release of my sophomore full-length album entitled “Renaissance
Man”. In order to pull it off, I’ve
set the funding goal at $1800; however, I am hopeful that this campaign will
bring in $4800 or more! At $1800, that
is the bare minimum required in order to cover the cost of album artwork, short
run duplication of discs, promo video shoot and print/internet promotions. With
$4800, I can expand to bulk replication of an enhanced compact discs which
would include extras such as music videos, a digital ebook, lyric sheets and
more; and, I can hit the road on a promo tour to ensure that this movement
reaches the masses.
And of course your generosity and support will not be for
nothing! I’ve put together some pretty dope incentives to help you to decide at
which level is best for you to give. They include exclusive downloads, posters,
t-shirts and so much more! No amount is too small – and I am grateful for your
support no matter how much it is!
Risks & Challenges
This is an all or nothing venture for me. The reality is
that if this campaign does not reach the minimum established goal of $1800, I
will likely have to hang up the mic for good. Making good quality music takes a
lot of financial resources. I’ve been blessed to give away my previous projects
for free; but, with little to no income from my previous endeavors, I won’t be
able to continue unless I can pull this campaign and project off.
Other Ways You Can Help
Sure, I am coming to you as humbly as I can to ask for your
support in this endeavor; however, this isn’t all about money. This has
everything to do with the music, the outreach and the experience. Therefore, it
would be a tremendous help if you could share this campaign on your Facebook
page, Twitter feed and/or blog. Tell anyone who you may know who also
appreciates the essence of hip-hop. Spread the word! Also, please keep this
campaign and its intent in your prayers. If it is in God’s will for this to be
a success, I am ever faithful that it will be. And if God has a different plan
for me, He still gets all the glory.
So many of us have been starving for something more from
hip-hop as of late. “Renaissance Man” is just my contribution to spark a
movement – a movement I hope you will join with me – a movement to revive the
spirit and essence of hip-hop. Thank you so much for your consideration and support. It is
an honor and a privilege to share this journey with you. GOD BLESS!
