Hi Everyone!
A friend of mine from college Colleen Fugate has been in nepal for the last 7 weeks including when the devastating earthquake struck. At the time she was in Lamjung province, where the epicenter was. Though she is now safe, she has seen there are many immediate needs in villages that have yet to receive any aid. Herself and a group of contacts in Nepal are currently gathering monetary donations from family and friends to personally spend the money on essential supplies and take them on a Jeep they have rented out filling supplies to take to surrounding communities.
I have pledged 500 dollars but would like to open up this opportunity to you all if you see it in your hearts to donate to help me reach that amount. Even 5 dollars will help in the immediate aid. She is only taking donations through the end of the day today so I set the bar high for myself to help out.
What We Need
25kg Sack of Rice = $18
1kg Daal (the staple protein in Nepal) = $1.75
1 sheet of large plastic tarpaulin = $4.75
One small general medical pack (including basic first aid supplies and general antibiotics) = $6
1 large warm blanket = $4.15
4 person tent = $40
1 sleeping bag = $15
50 liters of water purification tablets = $2
1 warm jacket = $8
About Colleen
A little about my friend: Colleen is an incredibly devoted girl who has followed her passion in human rights specifically in migrant communities.
Her current Watson project is called The Other Side of the Border: Women’s Resilience in Migrant Towns (Ghana, Morocco, Nepal, Philippines*, Guatemala)
In her words: The social, political, and economic transformations caused by human migration indelibly affect the communities from where migrants originate. My Watson year is rooted in these towns and cities and looks at the ways women navigate these changing contexts. How do women harness their own agency to get by in the face of transforming communities and ways of life? I will spend my year immersed in five national contexts, collecting and documenting women's stories of strength and resilience through both writing and photography.
With LOVE and HOPE!
