The Rialto theatre is a hotbed of the Big Band Swing scene in Liverpool in 1946, with bands playing most nights to full crowds of youngsters looking to forget the drudgery of everyday life, rations and the ruins of the blitz.
The Downswing Seven are The Rialto’s house band who are in the need of a new singer, much to the annoyance of George Hogg, the drummer. His disability had prevented him from seeing active service during the war, and now it’s preventing him from fulfilling his dream of fronting the band as the lead male vocal.
Are somethings worth killing for? George certainly thinks so…
In The Mood... For Murder is a 85000 word work of fiction. It is based in Liverpool in 1946, right after Britain was picking itself up from a brutal war.
The Rialto (a real theatre in Liverpool, sadly was destroyed in the 1980's) is a local hotspot where the young and the not so young used to go to dance all their troubles away.
The Downswing 7 are a local swing band, and the house band and at The Rialto.
They are in need of a new singer, due to the deteriorating health of the current male lead vocal, but there are other troubles in the band, most of them revolving around George Hogg, the drummer, Red the owner of the club and Brian the brass section, who has a secret to keep.
This novel is written and ready to go, I just need some funding together for the final edit, to finish off the artwork and to get the thing printed.
As part of the rewards package I will be offering digital and physical copies of my debut novel The Twelve.
