Overview
“Imagine a home-like co-working space, located within the heart of Detroit, which offers an eco-friendly environment to its families and children. The esthetics make the space warm and inviting. There’s a wisp of air that blows by as you begin to settle into your work. Children are engaged, playing within close proximity utilizing Montessori materials. Dialogue begins and families are bonding. This is the intent of Detroit Parent Collective.”

Short Summary

My name is Krista McClure, and I'm the Inspired Director {Founder} of Detroit Parent Collective (DPC). DPC began as a wisp of a dream. Ultimately, Krista’s dream was to find a way to bring much-needed resources, in a safe space, to support families throughout Metro Detroit.

The launch of; Inclusion in a Developing Neighborhood, is critical because of the heavy lift that Inspired Director {Founder} Krista McClure of Detroit Parent Collective and it's Members are trying to achieve. We arrive each day with the intent to have an open mind + open heart so that way we can continue to grow + learn.

By contributing to Detroit Parent Collective's; Inclusion in a Developing Neighborhood, you too will gain the gratitude that, I {as the Founder}, receive each day knowing that there are like-minded individuals who want to dismantle gentrification and support marginalized communities.

What This Village Needs And How We Want To Plug You In

Detroit Parent Collective needs to raise 20,000.00!

Believe me, we wouldn't be coming to you if we hadn't already exhausted all options
{Kiva, Personal Loans, Grants, etc.}

The repairs that are needed:

  • tuck pointing along exterior/ rear walls to prevent future water damage
  • external drain system along exterior/ rear wall (along foundation) to prevent future water damage
  • interior framing along exposed wall where previously damaged by wall
  • insulation + drywall where wall was previously damaged by water
  • installation of a sub-pump
  • installation of hardwood floors in PreSchool Classroom where previously damaged by water
  • refurnish our "home"base!
*within our Insurance Policy, there's a Water Exclusion Endorsement
**our Insurance will cover the cost of replacing the Picture Windows

With your financial support, a few things will happen:
We Will CONTINUE to Love You Endlessly
(because we are at the point of "go big, or go home")
  • For 25.00, we will send you a personalized card-- to include a picture from one of our Littlest Crew Member, within the Collective, their favorite activity (very likely our Atelier!)
  • For 50.00, we will send you a Tote with some Inspirational Words, such as: "When you think of the Future, plan accordingly for ours."- Kids Across The World. Because, who doesn't want a better world for our Littles?
  • For 100.00, we will package the Card + Tote together for you AND, add you (or your Business) as a Supporter to Detroit Parent Collective's Website!
  • For 500.00, we will package the Card + Tote together for you, add you (or your Business) as a Supporter to Detroit Parent Collective's Website AND name our Cooperative PreSchool in your honor!
  • For 1000.00*, well, we figure at this point you are a "Lifer" of Detroit Parent Collective and therefore a "shared" owner of the Buildings along Six Mile!
*1000.00 buys you 1% of the Buildings, presently appraised at 60k each
*10% of this contribution will be "kicked back out" to the community in a way that supports the families or individuals in alignment with Detroit Parent Collective's Mission.
*** YOU WILL STILL HOLD 1% of the Buildings despite the 10% Contribution to the Community
*** Krista McClure {Promenade Detroit LLC} will provide to you a Contract for this "shared ownership". As a shared owner, you hold no say in; Selling of Properties or Landlord/ Lease dealings.

Our {Collective} Impact

Detroit Parent Collective is designed to be inclusive of Detroit's families with a special emphasis on crossing barriers based on socioeconomic class, race and ethnicity. DPC is committed to offering a co-working space with onsite childcare and cooperative preschool, with supportive programming based on families’ expressed needs. While this work seems daunting, it's actually quite rewarding. Many of our Families (Collective Members) come from different walks of lives and that's what makes this space so beautiful! Without much effort we are removing barriers and finding similarities versus differences among each other. In other words, we are bridging two worlds; one where families would less likely have the opportunity or space to engage + learn from one another-- there's a very good chance that this is why we've been able to retain 90% of our Members since we launched mid-October 2017. {‌{Thank You Collective Members}‌}

Our Risks & Challenges

The reality is this: The Business Model {Detroit Parent Collective} is sustainable, and therefore is our asset and would do well in any community. However, this Business Model- designed to tackle gentrification and support marginalized communities- is needed in the community it was originally birthed; Bagley, Detroit. We've exhausted our "reach", including deep within our own pockets. It was clear to me on Sunday November 18th, after my buildings had been vandalized that this wasn't a vindictive move, rather a cry for Detroit Parent Collective, which had true meaning to "maintaining safe space", within a community that is rapidly developing and often leaving the voices + faces that need to be heard + seen, unheard and unseen. Some might suggest that the three young men who deliberately destroyed my picture windows are mischievous or a threat. However, my response is: "To the young men, or to the Parents/ Guardians of these young men, I'd LOVE for you to come forward. I'd LOVE to be able to put you to work from time to time. I'd LOVE to get your feedback on how to make Detroit Parent Collective inclusive to you. I know this gesture is rare, but so is this Business Owner."

Detroit Parent Collective is a Village.
If you too are like me, and have dug deep within your pockets only to find lint, no judgement!
The largest resource that one has is it's network-- so, please, share this campaign!

"My daughter goes to the Coop Preschool and we absolutely love it. All three of my kids love going there for any reason. Its nice to have such a wonderful welcoming community just around the corner from us."- S. S. (Bagley Resident)

"The space is beautiful and so much fun! I had a hard time getting my little ones to leave because they enjoyed their time so much. The staff is so kind and friendly! I love it and can't recommend this place highly enough!"- B. S. (Highland Park Resident)

"This place keeps me sane. It’s really true that “it takes a village...” and this place provides all that I would want in one." - J.Y. (University District Resident)
