Education is our mission not our market
A decade ago One Laptop per Child (OLPC) launched their ambitious plan to close the digital divide with a prototype, the innovative XO laptop. A lot has happened to the world since then, and it has a lot to do with the Internet and digital technology. In 2005, Facebook and YouTube had just formed, Twitter did not exist, the iPhone was still two years away and Android’s first release was in 2008 (now on 1.6 billion devices.) There was also no such thing as crowdfunding.
In ten short years, if you were connected to the Internet, you witnessed much of the world joining hands as many of us benefited from the creation of a global consciousness.
![]()
The next ten years, those of us who are reading this now, have an opportunity to democratise access to technology. Why is this important? So that we can all benefit from a more diverse range of experiences and perspectives. With 60% of the world’s population not connected to the internet, we are removing 4.3 billion opportunities to solve the world’s most complex problems - there is no equation on earth where that makes sense.
At One Education, we’ve developed the Infinity, a sustainable way to close this divide, without creating an e-waste crisis at the same time. We’re also focusing our efforts on the portion of the global population already wired to think creatively, to maximise our impact - primary school aged children. With the support of their teachers and parents - it is our mission to make the Infinity the cornerstone of a child’s education by making it easier to use in classrooms.

Why is the Infinity so important?
The Infinity tackles multiple issues in the world at once, but here’s a summarised account of a few of the big ones.

Infinity fights the digital divide
Quality technology at an affordable price increases opportunity for access
For the device you get, our price is low. We believe profit margins shouldn’t limit access to technology.
Every Infinity sale contributes to the purchase of another Infinity for a child, community or school who needs it.
Modularity enables a fluid part donation system, where parts are refurbished and rapidly distributed to those in need.
Infinity reduces e-waste
Ethical manufacturing techniques mean that environmental impact is minimised right from the outset.
Modularity is a huge game changer in eliminating e-waste. No more throwing away devices with perfectly functional ports, batteries, CPUs, and so on - just because of an all too easily cracked screen.
Donated parts mean that instead of going into a landfill, your pre-loved module is made good as new and put into the hands of someone who will love it as much as you did.
Infinity improves classroom technology
Specifically designed for kids and classrooms
Custom apps to make classroom integration seamless
Safe, simple and inexpensive charging rack solution (for when you don’t have 30 power outlets)
Low up-front cost improves accessibility
Modularity reduces long term upgrade and maintenance costs by 50%
Who is One Education anyway?
We are a small team of passionate and dedicated individuals from around the world, who strive to change the lives of children everywhere. Our headquarters is in sunny Sydney, Australia. G'day.

Founded 7 years ago by our CEO Rangan Srikhanta, the One Education Foundation began life as an off-shoot of the One Laptop per Child initiative.
To date we have...
Distributed over 50,000 XO computers to kids in need
Trained more than 3,000 teachers in classroom ICT
Integrated technology across 300+ schools
Begun working with major university research groups to study the effects of technology in the classroom
We walk, bicycle, train and connect to work every day to combat the digital divide, The Infinity is our not-so-secret weapon. That said, we believe that technology isn't the be all and end all to increasing opportunity for children. We are a teacher-centric enterprise.
Technology doesn't replace a teacher, but it does empower them - and that's what we aim to do.
Meet the team!
Meet the board!
The One Education board is a group of high minded and passionate people who generously volunteer their time to bring a world to life where all children receive a fair start.
Why Indiegogo?
We want the Infinity to be the central pillar in our strategy to close the digital divide and reduce e-waste. We’ve jumped on Indiegogo because of three very important reasons:
Market Validation: A successful campaign is an important step to seeking additional philanthropic and traditional funding to cover the costs required to get the Infinity into production.
Platform Support: We have been humbled by the accessibility and support the Indiegogo team have provided to our campaign. It is a completely different model of operation for our organisation and with Indiegogo’s support we feel confident we will have the best chance at validating our idea with the broadest audience possible.
Currency Support: A significant proportion of our production and development costs are in USDs and at this stage Indiegogo is the only major platform which will allow an Australian organisation raise and receive funds in USDs.

Risks & challenges
The Infinity computer is a machine without precedent. As with any groundbreaking invention there are risks and challenges that could undermine the timely delivery of the technology.
Fortunately for our backers, we have already worn a lot of risk to get the Infinity this far.
To put things in perspective, we’ve invested over $500k to test the following:
No compromises: we wanted to validate that it is possible to produce a machine without compromise, even with parts that are modular. This is crucial to ensuring the Infinity can meet its promise of a long life.
Cost effective: early indications have found that the Infinity can be produced cost effectively to be viable.
Small and compact: a key aim was to keep the Infinity at similar dimensions of the original One Laptop per Child XO whilst increasing screen size, adding front and rear cameras and making the machine more accessible than ever.
We are still left to solve for the following challenges:
Reduce thickness, weight and cost: We’ve earmarked key areas for change and have allocated three months to make changes and produce more refined prototypes.
Rigorous robustness and durability testing: The Infinity requires additional improvements to ensure it can survive everything a child can throw at it and each module.
Funding costs: We have estimated what we need to cover additional development and tooling charges to get Infinity into production. A successful campaign is an important data point in helping us to demonstrate to philanthropic and traditional funders to bridge any potential funding divide.
Contract Manufacturer: We have shortlisted three manufacturers and are waiting till after crowdfunding to confirm who will win our business. A successful campaign will be an important leverage point to get a manufacturer who will invest in a long-term relationship.
These are just some of the major challenges that lie ahead. In our favour, is that we are an organisation that has delivered over 50,000 computers and acquitted $11.7m in public funds; and in the process demonstrated we can manage risks to deliver agreed upon outcomes. We provided monthly, quarterly and yearly reports to the Australian Government and are audited by Deloitte, a top tier accounting firm.
Want to help out?
Want to contribute, but unable to financially? It's cool, we understand. You can still give us a boost though. The most powerful half of the word crowdfunding is the crowd part.
Share our campaign with your networks. Talk to your friends. Tell your boss. Contact your kid's school, your school, a nearby school.
If you agree with what we're trying to achieve, then please spread the good word on our behalf. We appreciate it more than you know.

FAQs
When will my Infinity be delivered?
The Infinity is expected to ship in September 2016. That's not too far away!
What if I want to buy more than 10?
First of all... wow! Thanks! You should head over to our website and hit the "School Pre-order" button to order quantities of 20 or more.
Flexible funding, what's that?
We have been advised that using flexible funding creates more streamlined payment options for our backers - and that "fixed funding" is restricted to PayPal. For this reason alone, we have selected "flexible funding."
Can I buy individual modules?
Not yet! Individual module purchases are planned for the near future, but at this point in time we are selling full Infinity kits only.
Is there a warranty? For how long?
There is! A standard 12 month manufacturer warranty applies. Don't forget that each module can be opened and repaired!
How do I update the software on the Infinity?
Whether you're using Android or Linux, updates simply download from the Internet. Keep automatic updates switched on, or trigger them manually - either way there's no fussing about with USB sticks.
How can I get in touch with you?
Tie a very long piece of string between two cans, and then post one of those cans to Sydney, Australia. Seriously though, you can leave a comment here on Indiegogo or alternatively here's our contact page.
I'm a journalist or distributor and I want to see the prototype in real life - is that possible?
It sure is! As long as you're near Sydney, Australia or San Francisco, USA. Simply contact media[ AT ]one-education.org to arrange a demo.
