Innermost is a psychological horror film about Sarah who is plagued by the trauma of an abusive relationship.
Sarah locks herself away in a dilapidated apartment that she obsessively keeps tidy, to avoid the trauma of an abusive relationship that she barely escaped and care for her most precious possession, a delicate seedling. A tiny life completely dependent on her that gives her joy.
Everything comes undone when a mysterious and malevolent presence enters the apartment uninvited. Sarah futilely tries to keep balance by appeasing the presence and caring for her seedling, that is now to Sarah’s horror quickly dying.
With increasing violence, the presence stalks, harasses and hurts Sarah, until it finally turns its attention to the plant.

My name is Kate Fisher and I'm the Writer and Director of Innermost. I'm an aspiring filmmaker with a passion for films with a message and the horror genre. My background is in Project Management which has set me up well for moving careers into film.
This story is important to me because I almost lost a close friend to domestic violence. Innermost is based on her story and based on my own scars as I went on the journey with her, it is a catharsis for me, and one that I hope raises awareness of domestic violence in Australia.
On average in Australia, one woman a week is murdered by a current or ex-partner. As of 25th April this year, 13 women and 4 children had been killed in domestic violence.
My friend is lucky to be alive and now, after therapy, thriving. But it didn’t feel like that for a long time, she was plagued by anxiety, depression and paranoia even though she had gotten away. This has been the inspiration behind Innermost and why I've taken a more psychological angle to storytelling.

Director - Kate Fisher
I'm the Writer and Director of Innermost, a story that is important to me personally and has been cathartic to work on. Predominately my experience has been in Assistant Directing, but i have Directed a music video previously.
Innermost is an important story to tell, it's based on my own experience of helping a close friend escape an abusive relationship. In Australia, on average one woman per week is murdered by a current or ex-partner. These stories need to keep being told until we find a way to protect victims and prevent this kind of violence.
I hope to continue a career in writing and directing, and working with my amazing crew on future projects.

Producer - Jy Ladhams
I'm the lucky Producer of Innermost and will work very closely with Kate throughout the entire production. I'm the voice of reason for the production. This is my second short film as Producer, with other work in 1st AC, Boom Operator, Camera Operator and I'm not shy being in front of the camera as well.
The film of Innermost is incredibly written and it’s such an important topic to show how victims deal with abuse after they’ve been able to escape the situation. I'm very grateful to be a part of such a dedicated team and able to bring the talented Director's vision to life.
I aim to work on both sides of the camera throughout my career, with writing and performing my own work. I hope to work closely with Kate on future projects.

Director of Photography - Jarryd Trask
I am the Director of Photography on Innermost. It is my responsibility to ensure the visual world of Innermost is as engaging and visceral as the story demands it to be. I have worked on a variety of student projects, I have worked as a Director of Photography on music videos and shorts and written and directed my own short films, one of which has been nominated for an award.
This film is incredibly important to me, as domestic violence has been a part of my life and those I love. It’s a great responsibility to ensure this story is done with the integrity and empathy it deserves. It’s an honour to work on Innermost and one I do not take lightly.
My dream career is to eventually start a production company to create and direct with a like minded creative focused on telling stories that matter personally to me and championing Australian made content, with a focus on making amazing art that will showcase what Australian talent can do.

Assistant Director - Blake Luxford
I’m the 1st Assistant Director (AD) for Innermost, which adds to my experience as a 1st AD being primarily my background in short films. I’ve also worked doing lighting on various student films and a music video, furthermore doing some videography and editing work.
Innermost matters to me as a film because it’s tackling such a strong subject matter, and at the helm is someone that has written a passionate script and something like that is always important to see that it reaches it full potential. After Innermost, and moving into my professional career, I hope to turn my 1st AD skills into a job, but also hope to write and direct pieces of work as well.

Sound Designer - Dani Marshall
My role in the film is Sound Designing, piecing together crucial sounds to help bring the film to life. Previously, I’ve worked as a Sound Recordist on another student film.
This film sheds light onto a topic that is thought to be taboo; Abuse and violence. It gives an amazing insight to the mental and physical struggles victims and survivors endure everyday.
I aspire to work in all fields of the Audio world.

Sound Recordist - Odin Karis
I'm Odin, I will be the sound recordist for innermost. I'm a graduate sound engineer from JMC, I specialise in the recording and editing of film audio and have worked on both the recording and sound design for a number of short films. The message in this film is important to me as it should be important to everyone, people who are treated poorly often don't show it until much too late and it effects them for the rest of their lives.

Editor - Mick-Eric Boettge
I am the editor of Innermost, a surreal film exploring hauntingly real issues in our society, which is why I can’t wait to work with Kate on telling this story, that is as intriguing as it is important.
I love and have experience in writing, shooting and editing, the three fundamental steps of telling any story on film. While my greatest passion is cinematography, it goes hand in hand with editing and I’m excited to be part of this project and develop this movie to its full potential.
