Story of My Book
Innovation for Everyone: Solving Real-World Problems with STEM is a step-by-step guidebook for young people and learners of all ages to begin solving real-world problems and creating a positive impact on their communities.
We’re constantly seeing global problems on the news and around us - COVID-19, the climate crisis, human rights violations, and so much more. But what if today’s youth could be a part of the solutions?
Hi there! My name is Neha Shukla and I am the author of Innovation for Everyone: Solving Real-World Problems with STEM, a nonfiction book that explores how young people today can use science and technology to create solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges and create a positive impact on their communities.
I wrote this book to inspire youth to get involved with problem-solving and STEM to address problems they observe in their local communities, and take tangible steps towards creating this impact. I wanted to break the stereotype and show students that you're never too young to make a change, and that your age, gender, or race shouldn't be barriers to getting started with STEM fields and innovation.
With massive global problems rising more than ever before, we need everyone to create solutions, and youth are a huge untapped resource for global and grassroots change. Ultimately, I hope to create a new generation of problem-solvers and innovators tackling the world's greatest problems through innovation, science, and technology - because innovation is for everyone.
The Inspiration for the Book
I was inspired to write this book because as a teen innovator myself, I've been creating solutions to problems ever since I was about 10 years old. But, my innovation journey truly began at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. When I saw how the pandemic was directly impacting my community and the world, I invented SixFeetApart, a wearable social-distancing device to slow the spread of COVID-19 using the latest developments in ultrasonic technology and microprocessors. My work in creating SixFeetApart was featured on the New York Times, Nasdaq screen in Times Square, ABC, Harper's Bazaar, and more.
From there, I began sharing my story and my 4-step innovation framework to students K-12 in global Innovation & STEM workshops, where I've reached over 54,000 students across the globe so far. My goal is to build a movement of young problem-solvers and innovators coming together to solve problems and impact their local communities.
