How is a picture book made? Just how do you craft a great action scene for a children’s novel, or create a storyboard, or research non-fiction without overloading it with information? What does a designer or a distributor do? How can you get published? And what happens next?
All these and many other questions are answered in Inside Story: the wonderful world of writing, illustrating and publishing children’s books, which will be published in May 2022 by UPA Books, the new collaborative imprint of two acclaimed Australian children’s publishers, Christmas Press and Little Pink Dog Books.
This fabulous book will be an invaluable resource and reference guide for aspiring writers, illustrators, editors and designers, and will also appeal to anyone interested in Australian children’s books. An attractive full-colour production, it is packed with tips, advice, illuminating quotes and anecdotes. The stellar list of contributors includes writers, illustrators, editors, designers, publishers, agents and reviewers from across Australia.
Hello, we’re the UPA team working away at producing this wonderful book and with this campaign we’re seeking your support to help us bring the project to full fruition.
The creation of the draft material for the book has been commissioned by the New England Writers’ Centre, generously supported by Create NSW, but with this campaign we are hoping to increase potential for a significant print run, enhance marketing and promotion and encourage pre-orders and pre-publication buzz.
We invite you to be part of this exciting and unique project by becoming a contributor, at whatever level works for you. We have great pledge rewards on offer and all contributors will be invited to a fantastic online launch to celebrate the book’s publication. We’ll also be updating contributors regularly about progress on the book, with ‘behind the scenes’ glimpses and interviews.
