Overview
The goal of Zoe’s Publishing and our two series of Zoe books is to offer true inspiration to readers (primarily ages 6-13), and to raise funding for scholarships and special project grants, which will be made available to children all over the world. I have worked with numerous children who've possessed a level of intelligence and imagination that cannot be permitted to go to waste.

Campaign Overview

Hello, my name is Jared and I’m the founder of Zoe’s Publishing, as well as the author of two series of books being published by the aforementioned about a smart and adorable little bear named Zoe. I’m a passionate artist who believes in the universal power of all art mediums. To me, art is the only language that the human race can understand universally. I, personally, communicate through several mediums, including: Acting, Singing, Cooking, and Writing. I have a BA in Theatre: Acting & Directing from a private university in California and have also studied verbal and non-verbal communications quite in-depth. While I work towards making artistry my fulltime job, I am an IT Professional (20 years). I presently freelance as a Project Manager/Consultant.

This campaign was started to help water a seed I planted, lovingly named Zoe’s Publishing. My goal is to offer true inspiration to readers (primarily ages 6-13), and to raise funding for scholarships and special project grants, which will be made available to children all over the world. I’ve had the privilege of working with different children from different parts of the world through tutoring, mentoring, and I even taught ESL for a short while. One common thread I noticed was that a majority of the children presented the potential to achieve great things. They just needed some inspiration and a little help locating and securing necessary resources, and that’s why I created Zoe’s Publishing. There will also be financial assistance options for non-traditional students, because I know from personal experience that it can be tough securing adequate funding for higher education as a non-traditional student.

With your help and support, Zoe’s Publishing will inspire children to become good people and achieve great things. And when that inspiration fuels them to be the next Thomas Edison, Alexander Fleming, or Maya Angelou we’ll be sure that there are resources in place to help them achieve their goals of making the world a better place for everyone.

What We Need And The Perks Of Helping Us Obtain It

We believe that transparency is very important, which is why we're providing this breakdown of where the monies raised will be spent. The money from this campaign will be spent on publication and marketing costs associated with the first book in the Zoe series of picture books, aimed at younger children. The breakdown is as follows:

  • 2% of the total amount raised will be taken by Indiegogo to cover their platform fee.
  • An additional percentage will be taken, per transaction, by their credit card processor.
  • $2,550 will be spent on the cost of illustrations. We have scoured the globe in search of the perfect candidate for the job, and we were blessed to discover a very talented illustrator in Bucharest, Romania. She created the amazing watercolor and ink illustration used for this campaign and will, likewise, create all of the amazing illustrations for the Zoe picture books.
  • Roughly $1,800 will be spent on initial publication costs. The amount will be paid to our outside printing house, who uses the money to properly configure their presses for our book. It also covers the initial run (test run) of 100 copies of the first book, entitled "Hello, I Am Zoe!"
  • The remainder of the balance will be spent on marketing, which includes promotional items like our silicone ILA Wristbands.

For those of you who decide that this is a mission you'd love to support, we've come up with some perks for you. Mind you, they're nothing all that fancy, but it's our way of saying thanks and demonstrating the claims we've made thus far. Our ILA Wristbands are a small but meaningful way for you to share your support for our mission with others. Another great perk, we're setting aside a number of copies of the first run of the first book ("Hello, I Am Zoe!"), which are being offered with an autograph and certificate of authenticity. We especially love our Donate-a-Copy perk, which enables you to donate one of these first-run copies to a public library, school, or classroom of your choice. What a great way to live out our mission statement, by offering inspiration (and the gift of reading) to so many children. Please feel free to browse through the list of perks we've put together for you!

Please note: For any of the perks that include a Donate-a-Copy book, please input your shipping information at checkout. We will contact you at the conclusion of the campaign to acquire shipping information for the public library, school, or classroom you have chosen. Please rest assured that we will verify the accuracy of these addresses before shipping.

The Impact

I believe that this mission I have mapped out will have huge positive results worldwide. For one thing, as I have previously stated, I have worked with numerous children, enough to acknowledge that most of them possess a level of intelligence and imagination that cannot be allowed to go to waste. I've also spoken to and/or mentored some young adults whose lives are not what they want, but they've had to make choices in the name of survival. However, they often have more to offer the world and need someone to step up and inspire them, and give them a chance.

I was a high school dropout who had a lot of potential. Nobody ever had much belief in me, but as a young adult I was blessed to meet two people who put a lot of belief in me, who inspired me in ways I could never adequately explain. It was, largely, because of them that at 22 years old I finally pursued higher education and went to university. They became secondary parents to me, and the love they showed me molded me into who I am today. I refer to them as Ma and Pa. Unfortunately, we lost Pa to a brain tumor a couple of years ago. I know he would be proud of what I am doing with Zoe's Publishing and I use the memory of his love and inspiration to fuel me into making this mission successful. I truly hope you too will show such selfless love and inspiration by supporting Zoe's Publishing.

Risks & Challenges

As with anything worth working towards, there are some challenges that might arise along the way. The human mind is wired to, by default, flee from these situations. However, I am among a certain type of person whose rewired their mind to face challenges head on. As a soldier and as a person who has had to fight for everything I have, I live by a "never give up" code.

One of the most overwhelming aspects of overcoming challenges is knowing how to do so. Each challenge is its own unique puzzle and requires individual and focused attention. One tactic I have learned to employ over the years, which I learned while homeless, is acceptance. There are multiple angles to every story, and it is important for one to acknowledge and accept those angles (or faults) that are one's own. I have learned that there are bits of the solution to the problem found in doing so. Another tactic I always employ is seeking the help of experts. As Robert T. Kiyosaki puts it, "Go to the fruit on the tree." If I cannot, by my own ability, overcome a challenge, I will seek out the help of those who are more knowledgeable in the matter at hand.

Other Ways You Can Help

Some people just can't contribute, and that is a fact we can understand. However, there are other ways those people can help inspire lifelong adventure and make this campaign a great success. Share it. If everyone simply shares this campaign with their various social networks and encourages those people to check it out, the exposure will be far and wide and the momentum it builds will be huge. Also, even better than just sharing on social networks, word-of-mouth. Talk to 10 people; tell them about this campaign and what it seeks to achieve. Encourage them to come and check it out.
