In April 2015, USC Dance will present a unique and unprecedented concert to showcase the talent and productivity of its own legacy - the USC Alumni Choreography Showcase. With hopes to turn this inaugural event into an annual concert, USC Dance has chosen a select few of its alumni choreographers to present their work in this concert, including 2012 graduate (and recipient of the USC Dance Director’s Award) Caitlin McCormack.
Caitlin has been recognized for her creative approach to choreography and staging not only during her tenure as a USC student, with four pieces presented in USC Dance concerts, but also since her graduation in regional festivals, showcases, and performing companies, including Dance Canvas (Atlanta, GA) and Dance Augusta (Augusta, GA). As inventive as her choreographic style, Caitlin is innovative in her approach to collaboration and rehearsal for her works, and has often worked with dancers both on-site and long-distance in order to incorporate the talent and quality of movement that best reflects her vision.
Of her participation and selection as a featured Choreographer for this concert, Caitlin says "I’ve been given an exciting opportunity to choreograph on the University of South Carolina Dance Company for their first ever Alumni Showcase, and I’ll be using 17 current USC dancers alongside 5 Alumni dancers: Jackie Ball, Tricia Koch, Paige Maxwell, Katie Owerbach, and Taylor Ferguson. This will be a true representation of USC Dance with current majors sharing the stage with alumni dancers who have gone on to dance professionally."
In the spirit of showcasing and honoring the success of USC Dance and its alumni, Caitlin’s goal is to fully fund the travel costs of these alumni dancers, who will be traveling to Columbia from multiple locations- Atlanta, Philadelphia, Orlando, and Charleston to participate and perform in this exciting collaboration. All donations will exclusively support travel costs for these dancers, and any additional funds raised will compensate them for their performance work, which each dancer has generously committed to regardless of support outcomes. Thank you for your consideration and willingness to donate and support the arts in this personal and exciting way!
