'Pilgrimage for Change' with J. Philip Newell: April 2011

9th - 16th April 2011

Led by John Philip Newell, along with his wife Ali, Pilgrimage for Change is a week on the Isle of Iona for young adults in their twenties and thirties seeking inner and outer transformation in their lives and the world. Iona over the centuries has been a place of new beginnings and commitment to peace. In the development of his work and vision, John Philip has placed a priority on working with young leaders in the belief that they hold part of the key to new beginnings in our world. Pilgrimage for Change is designed to support this work.

The Travelers

We are Erin & Erin, longtime friends and creative collaborators seeking to join J. Philip Newell's Pilgrimage for Change on the Isle of Iona in April. We feel strongly that compassion and imagination are necessary for the continued growth and betterment of ourselves and our communities. The pilgrimage to Iona is an opportunity for us to explore our shared desire for compassionate leadership and to develop our creative skills in the pursuit of peacefulness.

The pilgrimage will also be the inspirational foundation for a body of creative work we call Eternal Echoes. For more than six years, we have collaborated on a library of images and writing that draw upon Celtic spirituality and lore. The works are a study in forgiveness: we explore the relationship between human nature and the natural world as it manifests itself through dreaming and fantasy. It's a reawakening of the healing wisdom of myth and imagination. The first book (tentatively titled The Boy Named Believe) is starting to take form and will be ready for print in the year 2012. It will be followed by Shadowflyer I & II as well as Storm & Raven (and the list is growing).

Our pilgrimage is a story we want to share with you, and we need your help to make it a reality.

The Pilgrimage

Our budget for the trip is close to $6000, and our goal is to raise at least $4000 to help cover the program costs, passports, transportation, food, and lodging for the two of us.

Program cost (includes dinner, bed, and breakfast at St Columba Hotel for the week of the program): $2500

Passports (photos, book and card): $360

Airfare (round trip estimate from Travelocity): $1900

Train from Glasgow to Oban (round trip): $160

Ferry from Oban to the Isle of Mull (round trip w/o a vehicle): $16

Taxi service across the Isle of Mull (round trip estimate): $50

Ferry from the Isle of Mull to the Isle of Iona (round trip): $24

Food/lunches not provided by the program (estimate): $200

Additional accommodations (estimate for nights not at St Columba Hotel): $300

Misc (estimate for extra or unforeseen expenses--i.e. travel to and from airport, parking, supplies, and/or emergencies): $600

Any miscellaneous funds donated that are not used on the trip will be put towards the Eternal Echoes project. Check out our VIP Perks to see what we have to offer in return for your contributions.
