Tech2Educate's Mission
Tech2Educate provides teachers and students in independent public schools, such as charter schools, with up-to-date technology and software to engage the student in the classroom and enhance a student's educational experience.
What We Need
- Tech2Educate needs 30 iPads to help start our tablet based mathematics program. At $399 each, we need $12,000. All funds will go directly to a charter school in Philadelphia!
- Our first partner is KIPP West Philadelphia, and we have 15 iPads allocated as our first project. The goal is to implement tablets in two more classrooms and measure the results across three different schools.
- As a new organization, we are all volunteers! This project will help get our mission underway.
- The study will start at the beginning of the Fall 2013 school year. We will be working over the summer with each school to perfect the delivery of the program.
About Tech2Educate
Founded in Philadelphia, Tech2Educate has a tremendous group of charter schools to work with and that number is constantly growing. Students and teachers need more technology in the classroom to make learning fun and exciting.
Tech2Educate works directly with K-12 charter schools to implement tablet based education modules. Core subjects where tablets can be implemented are:
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Sciences
- English
-
Reading
Eventually we will provide tablets to enhance all core subjects, but our first study will focus on improving mathematics in middle school. A student well prepared in middle school will have a better chance of succeeding in high school and beyond.
A needs assessment will be conducted with the school and the students in order to maximize the educational benefit. It is important to be able to measure the progress of the students and constantly improve the effectiveness and delivery of the lesson.
The math proficiency level of each student participating will be tested prior to the iPad program beginning and after the program to assess the impact.
The Impact
- 100% of funds received will end up in the school and in the hands of students!
- Only 50% of students in Philadelphia are proficient in Math. Technology will engage the students and get them excited about learning.
- Through the use of educational software, students, teachers, and administrators will be able to track student progress.
- We work directly with the schools to ensure results and we will publish them on our website.
- We have a Temple University Education Professor and a Professor of Marketing from Drexel University on our board of directors to help manage the study.
