Character - Academics - Leadership

"None of this is really about football.  We’re going to get scored on eventually and lose a game, and that doesn’t mean anything.  What I hope we’re doing is sending kids into life who know that every day means something.  Sure we like our football around here, but we truly believe it takes a whole town to raise a child, and that’s worth a whole lot more.” – Roger Barta

The Upper Cape Spartans (UCS) is a new public, independent, not-for-profit Corporation dedicated to creating an environment of discipline, self-respect and success to aid in the academic, athletic, and social success of our student-athletes.  Our mission is to use the educational power of football and cheerleading to help the children of Cape Cod reach their highest potential.

We are currently looking to outfit 100 participants with new Xenith X2 Youth Helmets, which provide an outstanding level of safety for the players. $12,000.00 will allow us to buy new Helmets from Xenith. Even if we do not reach our goal of $12,000.00 the funds donated will be used to purchase as many Helmets as we can.

Share this campaign with your friends and family.  It only takes 12,000 people, each of which are willing to donate a single dollar ($1) to completely fund this campaign in support of these kids.

We see ourselves in a position to have a major impact on the children that come to be Spartans. We see that we are more than coaches; we are mentors and want to capitalize on that to help instill the things that will make these children into productive, positive members in our community and society as a whole. This is why the Upper Cape Spartans is built on the foundation of Character, Academics & Leadership (C.A.L.). The CAL program allows us to use the practice field as a classroom; we integrate building blocks of life with a life-skill theme every week (i.e. perseverance, integrity, teamwork). We stress academics and believe in open communications with both parents and teachers by sending home weekly progress sheets to be filled out so we know where each child needs help. We want continuity with home and school so the children do not get mixed signals; children thrive on order and routine. We believe in rewarding them for a job well done in all aspects of their life and in doing so they realize that just as in real life hard work makes good things happen. That is why we have sought out and partnered with programs and reward systems like Scholar Baller and Coach Wyatt for the Black Lion Award.

There are some immediate results in what we do, but the long term goal is when they enter high school and the decisions they make impact their lives in dramatic ways. It is our hope that the lessons they learned with us will stand out so the choices they make, the way they live, and the influence they have on those around them lead them to become an upstanding citizen that contributes to society. One that can be accountable for their actions and have the skills that will help them thrive and compete in life.
