What I need & What You Get
Due to the nature of this residency I will be unable to work legally for the 6 months I will be stateside. This means I will need funds to cover not only materials but also living costs. There are many variables in this situation that I wont be able to nail down and until the time actually comes but in the interest of transparency I'd like to share with you the budgets I've laid out for both.

TOTAL ESTIMATED NEED: 10 392
At this time I estimate that I will be able to contribute 5000$ of my own money which is a good start but not enough.
What I would like to offer you in return for your support is a discount on current work I have in stock and the opportunity to pre-order work, at a reduced rate, that I will be completing during my time at the Museum.
The Impact - Why this is Crucial.
Opportunities for emerging artists working with glass are incredibly limited especially if your financial position doesn’t allow for renting studio time at full price. Having been out of school for a number of years without access to studio space has given me ample time to research and design a number of exciting projects however, the expense of working with glass has limited my ability to realize the these concepts. In order for me to continue to advance my career I need to produce a new body of work and I need to do it now. As time goes by, the work I have documented is eligible for fewer and fewer opportunities. Having a current body of work will allow me to participate in exhibitions, secure funding for future projects and most importantly, it will greatly impact the likelihood of being accepted to a Masters program. In order to fully realize my designs I need time to refine the processes involved. This means the exploration of multiple techniques and processes, some entirely new, others that I am well versed in but could use some refinement. I have been offered an incredible opportunity to work in a world class museum with a highly accredited team. This will afford me the time and facilities to experiment and grow artistically.
The New and Exciting Stuff
While at the museum I will be working on a new series titled Human Nature. This body of work will explore the rapidly evolving relationship between human sexuality and technology. With a particular interest in ‘sexting’ I’ve been collecting conversations of a sexual nature that anonymous individuals have shared with me via online submission. I then deconstruct the submissions to understand their contexts and the dynamics at work, which in turn informs the imagery for each piece. This body of work contrasts these new forms of sexual display with those of the animal kingdom, particularly displays of sexual dimorphism (distinct physical traits present in one gender).
I feel this is an important idea to discuss and explore because it's something that effects a very real part of the human experience. My generation was the first to have technology present at the time of our sexual awakening and that relationship has had a ripple effect that impacts nearly everyone's life in some way.
By creating this work I hope to open a dialogue about an issue that, while present in most of our lives, can be difficult to discuss openly.
