Who We Are
Jazz Roots Dance was formed in 2009 by the world-renowned jazz choreographer, Sue Samuels. The company is dedicated to the preservation of the classical jazz form, and aims to entertain and educate people from all generations about the roots of jazz dance.
About This Project
We´re asking you to support us in presenting works from our repertory, a total weekend of Jazz Roots Dance. First Season Performances with Gala Reception April 27th and 28th 2013 at Salvatore Capezio Theater in New York City. We will be donating tickets to local organizations, providing more access to the community.
About Our Campaign
We are a professional company and are always seeking new performance opportunities to excite our audiences about classic Jazz Dance and educate them about its rich history. As a relatively new company, we need to think of innovative ways to meet our substantial performance costs. The $5,000 we are looking to raise from this campaign will help us to present our first Season Performances, which will raise the profile of Jazz Roots Dance and help us to expand the work we feel so passionate about. Specifically, the money raised will go towards;
- Dancers
- Theater and rehearsal space rental
- Technical Support - Lighting and Sound, Stage Manager
- Photography and Videography
- Advertising / Marketing: flyers, playbills, website, design, publicity
- Liability Insurance
- Costumes
- Production / Administrative Support
- Ticket donations to the local community
Our Reviews
This is what you will be supporting when you contribute to our campaign.
“....a Broadway-esque expression of showy movements linked by rhythm and punctuated by individual pizzazz. Various styles seamlessly flow through the choreography, held together by music, strong lines and performance – a testament to the potential of classical jazz.” Brian McCormick, Dance Studio Life
Our work has also been described as,
“...sultry, witty, dynamic, sentimental, popular, energizing, sensual” Milly Rockefeller, Martha Graham Dancer.
