The Gist of It
Hi! I'm Jen Ell. I design and run a pretty rocking little clothing and accessories company called Jen Ell's Revenge. For the past four years I've managed to handle the fundng all on my own, but in order for my business to really grow and mature the way I want it to I need a little help. Advertising, participating in shows and craft fairs and planning and hosting events can be expensive. In the past I have participated in and hosted two fashion shows. They were wonderful events that not only provided exposure for my business, but they were also fundraisers for Augusta Pride, our local organization dedicated to creating and pro-GLBT events in our area.
New ideas are always running though my head. Most of the time these are new designs, but sometimes it will be visions of what my future store would be like. That has always been my dream, but right that is all it is....just a dream.
Your support and contributions will help me build my business by enabling to place more effective advertisements online, and hopefully in print, participating in more large scale shows and festivals, planning events throughout the year that provide exposure for Jen Ell's Revenge as well as help raise funds for worthy organizations, and develop new products. Hopefully, one day, as my business grows with your support, I will be able to achieve my dream of having my own little boutique.
Starting Small
Of course all these things I mentioned can cost substantially more than my goal, but I decided to start small. At this point every little bit helps, and the amount of money received will determine how it is spent.
Here's a little more info, so you can better understand where it's going
Advertising Costs: Online advertising can be as little as a few dollars or hundreds and thousands depending on where you advertise. Print advertising typically starts in the $100's for small local papers, and can jump to the thousands for larger national publications. My plan is to choose options that are lower in cost (>$100) that have a wide audience of like minded people. These will probably be blogs and smaller indie sites and publications.
Show/Festival Costs: The general rule I have learned is that the more and event costs to vend at the better outcome your ging to have. Typically vending for these types of shows are around $100 a day, but they can be higher. Many shows are also multi-day events and can require traveling, so there are additional costs associated with attending as well.
Events: This can be a loaded answer. The more money you have to spend, the bigger and better the event can be. End of story.
Product Development: Since a lot of my items are recycled the cost of just making one or two of something is minimal, but when it comes to creating quatity to keep a store stocked or sell wholesale then it costs greatly increase. In order to really grow I need to be able stock up.
Why should you do this?
I could make up some crazy reason, but that's just lame. Honesty is the best policy. I work 8-5 in the corporate world, and typically spend all weekend sewing and taking pictures unless it's a special event or I'm traveling for work. During the week I edit photos and list new items. It's my dream to be able to do this full time, so basically, you're just helping me achieve my dream.
Other Ways You Can Help
I know not everyone can afford to contribute, and I can completely relate. I've been a broke college student/graduate before too. If you'd just take the time to share this with your friends it would be greatly appreciated!
