Short Summary
My name is
Janos Kis, a freelance photo & video-journalist. I have a
strong interest in Social documentary, Photojournalism, Humanitarian and
Street photography, documentary film making and Videography.
Regardless of
the subject matter, I am interested in depicting obvious and essential details
of life that are often overshadowed by larger, more newsworthy events in the
media circumstances. I have captured mostly political and social topics so far,
such as Holocaust remembrance, various political protests, Khmer Rouge survivors, migrant workers,
asylum-seekers, child labor, landmine victims, homelessness, children with
congenital disorders, etc.
I have an
educational background in Sociology and Film making and been living for
many years in various different countries around the globe, including
Hungary, France, USA, Japan, Israel and Cambodia. I have a firm experience
working as a freelance researcher, fixer, line producer and production manager and worked with Award winning directors too. Currently I'm based in my
native Budapest, Hungary and documenting the
refugee crises.
I just recently lunched this refugee campaign
and now asking for your help and contribution to finish this important Low
Budget Road Documentary.

The film is focusing on the infamous journey of Syrian,
Afghan, Iranian Kurd and Bangladeshi refugees, who were transferred by buses in
the middle of the night on the 5th of September from Budapest Keleti Station to
the Austrian border. Prior
to that Hungarian authorities betrayed thousands of people stranded for a week
at this railway station and were not allowed to travel even though they had
already purchased their tickets to Munich, Germany. Suddenly as a surprise authorities
let people embark on train with the belief that they were traveling
to the Austrian border. Instead the train stopped at Bicske refugee camp, about
40 km (25 miles) west of Budapest. As a result, the following day
hundreds of migrants from Keleti station set off on foot along the M1
motorway toward Austria. At that night Hungarian militant extremists
clashed with refugees camping outside Keleti station. Soon after the government
finally managed to send buses and transport refugees from the railway, along
with those who had already opted to walk, to Vienna, Austria on M1 motorway.

Following the news I joined the refugees with a friend of mine on
their way at 4 am on board of an old city bus and
documented their Odyssey from Budapest Keleti station across "No Man's
Land" between the two countries all the way to Nickelsdorf train station
in Austria to raise awareness of the issue in Hungary.
What I Need &

the film is in its post-production phase of development we still have
some needs to meet before it is finished. This is why I am turning to
the Indiegogo community, our friends and supporters of this project to help us
raise these completion funds.
I
need your support for:

Post-production,
can be time consuming but we are in good hands.
Many documentary film makers in Hungary now do not have the chance
to come up with their films and reach a decent numbers of audience due to their
opposing political point of view to that of the government’s who is controlling financial
resources.
With your contribution, however, I shall be able to finish this documentary and present the “Odyssey” of the betrayed refugees
to a wider audience.
Risks & Challenges
I am trying my best to accomplish the film as early as possible
and show it to the audience at the beginning of 2016.
For you there’s
No Risk
Other Ways You Can Help
In case you
are not in a position to contribute financially you can still help. Do not feel
your financial aid is too small to matter. Every little drop helps. Please remember,
it is very important too to spread the word by social media. Sharing this page
and trailer with friends and co-workers could just lead to the funding I need.
