My name is Lexi Crisp. I am a geology major at Wittenberg University. My academic experience at Wittenberg has made
me fall in love with the environment and the study of the Earth system. I was recently accepted to the Juneau
Icefield Research Program (JIRP) in which I will spend 2 months (June 22 to
August-17) hiking and skiing across the icefield to reach camps where we can conduct
glacial research. This trip would be
huge for my academic career and my hopes of going to grad school in the
future. This trip truly is a once in a
lifetime experience and a unique opportunity to study glaciers hands on! The field fee for this program is
$4,950. On top of this fee I also need
to pay for airfare to and from Juneau, AK, ski rental, and other essential
equipment needed to cross the icefield safely.
I have received a grant to help offset the costs of the field fee, but
still have many more expenses. Even if I
don’t reach my entire goal, I will still use the money to help offset costs. Anything you can give would be greatly
appreciated! I understand not everyone
is in a position to give money; in that case I would appreciate it if you could
just help me spread the word! Thank you
so much!
