Hi, thanks for coming along.
I'm Paul Moxon an independent filmmaker based in in Birmingham, UK. I've directed and produced projects ranging from short films such as Deception starring British TV Legend Brian Croucher, to highly successful book trailers Wulfsuna and acclaimed feature length films of live showcases and dance performances.
What is "Karma"?
"Dan and Linda, a young professional couple are renovating their dream home. However a dark secret emerges that could tear their world apart."
Written by debut writer Nicola Chance, "Karma" is a twisted tale of obsession, morality and power set in the midst of a crumbling relationship.
Featuring strong characters, a well rounded and developed plot line and a twisting "Hitchcock" charm, I knew from the moment I first read the script that this was the next film we had to make and the project we just had to share. We want to give this amazing story the film it truly deserves, with high production values raising the bar on anything we've previously seen or done. We want to bring something fresh and exciting to the screen.
We already have an incredibly talented and experienced team in place and the awesome cast are ready to bring the characters to life, however if we're going to succeed, we need your help.
How can I help?
Well from the start our aim is to keep the production as tight as possible. Yes it would be nice to be driven to the set every morning in a limo, but I think we can live without that for the time being. However, no matter how many ways you find to keep costs down, there are still unavoidable expenses including:
-
EQUIPMENT - We're bringing in higher end cameras with cine lenses to ensure we have a film which stands out amongst the crowd. However, It's no good having good picture if you don't also have top quality sound and as you can imagine this all adds up.
-
FX - "Karma" is all about the characters and story, so we're not looking at 100's of digital fx shots. What we will require is a small amount of quality prosthetic make-up and good stunt supervision.
-
FOOD - We need to stop any revolts on set and keep everyone happy during the long days of filming. Providing something to eat and drink seems to do the trick but unfortunately they can't survive on just bread and water (we've tried).
-
LOCATIONS - We're shooting the whole film on location (we must be mad). Whilst this does significantly cut back on soundstage and set build costs, it comes fuelled with a whole host of other logistical and financial considerations, including . .
-
LICENSES, PERMITS & INSURANCE - Not exactly the glitz and glamour side of showbiz, but extremely important if we're to keep everyone safe, secure and not doing "10-20 downtown".
-
MARKETING, FESTIVAL SUBMISSIONS - It's no good having an amazing film like "Karma" if no-one gets to see it.
- oh and I'd like a limo.
So what can we offer in return?
Well making any film is an incredible experience and we want you to share it with us, that's why we've come up with some awesome (and affordable) rewards. These include tickets to the gala premiere preview, a chance to appear in the film, lunch with members of the cast and crew, executive producer/IMDB credits and on-set experiences.
Why should I contribute?
Well we're not going to lie, we need your help to make the film. However, it's not just about the money. We're storytellers and like a lot of people we're tired of the constant stream of prequels, sequels, remakes and reboots, we want to see great new stories up on the screen. That's why we actively source work such as "Karma", from new writers who have something original to say. We feel that by doing this, we not only give important exposure to new and exciting talent, but also give audiences something fresh, honest and engaging to enjoy.
"Karma" will be our 15th production and because of our belief in delivering quality storytelling and identifying good stories, our films have received high acclaim from festival programmers and audiences around the world. Previously, "Deception" was made "Official Selection" as part of both the 2014 American Online Film Awards and 2014 Worcestershire Film Festival.
Risks & Challenges
Nothing is risk free and we obviously can't provide guarantees that the film will ultimately achieve festival success. However, we do have a solid track record in successfully delivering quality films of varying formats and lengths, both on time and within budget. That said, with previous films making festival official selections and short listings, it does bode well for "Karma".
Whilst not the most glamorous of areas I do have a background in financial risk management. As a result I'm able to bring skills to each project, which allows us to identify and manage both risks and expectations to ensure we deliver a successful production. We spend a lot of time and effort preparing and developing every project to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible and that the team have the capability and resource to overcome any challenges which may arise.
That's all folks!
Congratulations, you've reached the end and hopefully you feel as much as we do about "Karma" and what we're trying to do. So please contribute, choose your reward and help us make "Karma" happen.
Can't give at the moment? Don't worry there are other (free) ways in which you can help! Just spread the word about our campaign and film, like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. I'll be posting updates about the production, so help us make some noise.
Anything you can do is very much appreciated.
Thank you.
