Many people have asked me "what is an Art Car?" This is a chicken art car that made by Smitty Regula in Houston. I want to do a chicken themed art car for Takoma Park! Yes, it will be a chicken theme. No, it will NOT look just like this one. UPDATE: I have technical assistance from Clarke Bedford of the famed Hyattsville art car! Join in! Be part of the team that will transform this blank canvas into a moving tribute to all the things that make Takoma Park, MD the weird and wonderful place it is!

The goal of this project is to take our Subaru Forester and turn it into a beautiful and visionary art car to be shown at parades and events. It started as an idea over coffee with Laura Barclay, and led to three month long search for a car. Enter Penny and Julie from the Big Bad Woof, who donated their pet food delivery car! We now have a car ready to be turned into an Art Car! It is "canvas" white, symbolic of the beginning of this journey.

The team is led by professional artist Marcelle Fozard. She has been doing small and large scale art for many years and is a highly visible member of the Takoma Park art community. The team will be further supplemented by as many fun and like minded artsy minions as she is able to corral. The idea is for this to be something the community build together and can enjoy.

Marcelle has almost no experience in decorating cars but she has something better. She has plenty of experience charging into the unknown without fear or hesitation. She has successfully taught herself many different art skills including yarn bombing, sewing all sorts of different materials, community murals and now arc welding.

Marcelle specializes in art projects that are also community builders, that bring mirth and cheer. Support the Art Car project and know that you are contributing to a piece of weirdness for Takoma Park.  

What We Need & What You Get

We need your support for some mundane things like insurance (cheap!) and Maryland registration. However, anything past the bare minimum that we can spend on this - everything goes to keeping it WEIRD! Materials, tool rentals - all of our time is volunteer - so every dime goes to keeping the car going and getting it funky!
