Our Story
'Key of Life' was written and directed by Japanese filmmaker Hiromu Yamawaki. It is a tale of family love, grief, and moving on, that unfolds when an unexpected encounter with a little girl, Jessie, causes Hayden, a burglar to rethink his life purpose.
Our main character Hayden was written from Hiromu's perspective, as a young adult who was in need of guidance regarding the path he should take.
The film also visually and stylistically combines East Asian and North American cinema, which is reflective of our crew members' backgrounds.
Amongst all the darker stories, we'd like to create a hopeful and lighthearted experience that will have a lasting impact on its viewers: it is never too late to go after your dreams and make a change in your life.
With a contribution, you would become an integral part of our journey as young filmmakers, and uplift Asian filmmakers' voices and unique vision.

Why We Need Your Help & What You Get
Any contribution you make will be going to making sure our experience goes smoothly:
- Our main filming location is a house: this is where we will be spending the biggest portion of our journey. We will be shooting for three days, and renting a house of this size costs around $300 a day. To make sure our vision is achieved, our location is crucial as our house will serve as a canvas for the characters' feelings.
- On-set, we will be working with our amazing team of 20+ people, and they all need to be fed. Another portion of our budget is dedicated to ensuring everyone is taken care of as they volunteer on this project.
- A big part of achieving our vision consists of finding the right actors to embody these characters, including Jessie, the little girl who lives in the house Hayden is breaking into. She is around 10 years old, which means we will be working with a minor. To ensure her safety and well-being on set, we will be hiring a minor coordinator during our days of shooting.
- A good story can make an unpleasant film if you don't have a proper sound. That's why we are hiring a skilled sound team, both during production and post-production!
The Future Of 'Key Of Life'
Seeing our team's vision come to life will be very fulfilling as it is a story close to our hearts. Our main intention is for our audience to connect to the characters' journey, and feel compelled to move on from whatever may be holding them back.
Each of us has worked on multiple shorts in the past, and we are excited to combine our strenghts to make this one happen!
With your help, we will be able to submit our film to numerous film festivals all around the world, specifically in Asia and North America.
Thank You for Trusting Us!
